Males on Lexapro - advice/answers

Posted by Jimmyboy on October 6, 2006, at 16:56:45

I have been on a tiny dose of Lexapro ( 5 mg) for a little over a week , and I really feel that it has helped alot with anxiety , so I would like to keep taking it, only problem is , even at this small dose its completely killed my sex drive ..

Has anyone had this loss of sex drive go away after using this for awhile, after all I am on a really small dose maybe it will go away after a few weeks? I hope?

Also if anyone has any ideas of other way to counter act this, I would love to hear from you.

Thanks,

JB

Hi,
I was just talkin to my shrink about this, u have options:

1. wellbutrin - a prosexual antidepressant as an addon

2. yohimbine - some kinda vasodilator i think

3. cyproheptadine - i think thats how u spell it, its a hayfever drug which blocks certain serotonin receptors

4. loratadine - similar to 3

good luck!

Give it a bit of a chance--does it deaden your interest in sex or is it more a matter of developing and maintaining an erection--or difficulty having an orgasm. The solution lies in where the problem resides. Wellbutrin is often prescribed to counter these problems. It is not unusual that men taking SSRIs may just need to become better lovers--more forplay, more mutual stimulation, engaging your partner and delayed ejaculation. You should dfinitiely bring this up with your physician--there are solutions

Wellbutrin and Remeron have helped. I'm on 300 mg Wellbutrin and 60 mg of Remeron in addition to my 5 mgs of Lexapro. Orgasm is still delayed a little, but not as much.

Yes Lexapro does decrease sex drive quite a bit for me as well even on 5mg. This in addition to the delay. I have been off and on Lexapro several times in past couple of years and in spite of the side effects I keep going back to it. On 5mg I have found that sex drive does return after 1-2 months, but the ejac delay never decreases though you can get used to it.

Because of the sexual side effects, I'm currently experimenting with 2.5mg...
