Alcohol and Seroquel?

Posted by snapper on October 10, 2006, at 1:27:27

I did not know which board to post this under .....I have been being careful....I just want to know if it is seriously "dangerous" to mix my alcohol consumption (which varies- unless I abstain 100%) to 25 mg of Seroquel. I have always done so well but I don't really want to mess myself up...just sleep . Doc just took away Ambien Cr....knows I have a propensity to drink but was not concerned about the "possibility" of alcohol and a low dose of seroquel and 5 to mg of Valium per day. Again I am not looking to harm myself or not wake up. Just seeing what others may know.
Thanks

I don't know about your "propensity" or how much, but a very moderate amount of alcohol, say a few drinks of wine a week would not do anything to the amove regimen -- 25mg is at the noise level for Seroquel and 5mg of Valium is almost there. Not sure why your doctor took away the Ambien CR, but that's between the two of you.

Don't drink at bedtime with any form of pseudobenzodiazepine, including Ambien/Ambien CR, Lunesta, and Sonata.

The others, 5mg of Valium and 25mg of Seroquel are not an issue with moderate drinking. I know, I take a sh*load of Valium and a full dose of Seroquel and I can drink one drink at a bar per week. So you're not in danger with those amounts.

Yes, the combination can cause sleepwalking and all sorts of ugly things. In some people. I also from personal experience wouldn't recommend drinking and not having it out of your system before taking Trazodone. It was the only time in my life I blacked out in the bathroom floor.

That's interesting. I drink most evenings and take 100mg of Trazadone at bedtime. My sleep disturbances are directly linked to the level of my current depression. More depression = less sleep; better mood = better sleep.

Just keep a few hours between the glass of wine or beer and the Trazodone. The synergistic CNS depression and plus Trazodone lowers your blood pressure, that's the primary issue in fainting.

But more depression and anxiety does lead to less sleep and greater insomnia due to a lot of different reasons including disturbing circadian rhythm and REM, and certainly makes sense.
