it's so sedating? To me tiredness is a *major* feature of depression.

Hats off to all those Remeron takers. I don't know how they do it. Nor how something so sedating can (in whatever way) stimulate NE. And the rage and irritablility thing. The doctor who Rxd it for me asked me how I was feeling and then said "Stale prominontory?" Good for a laugh, naturally I said yes, wondering wtf.

I got used to Remeron after about a week and it isn't sedating anymore. Can't say it has really helped my depression much either. Helps me sleep well though.

Hey Declan,

May I ask what dose you took and for how long?

Saturn

7.5mg for 1 day, 3.75mg the next, discontinued thereafter.
Fair trial?

May I ask at what dose and if it helps with anxiety (if you have it)?

Does Remeron (mirtazapine) upregulate NE? I've read that it does a great job at resetting the HPA for those with glucorticoid issues.

Well, I only did 15 mg for 3 days and 30 for 1-2. My understanding is that you don't really get the NE effect until at least 30 mg (lower doses more sedating than higher doses). I'm guessing neither one of use technically gave it a fair trial.

I don't know if remeron upregulates NE receptors, but it does increase synaptic NE via alpha-2 adrenergic antagonism.

The tiredness, for me, doesn't last in the morning. If I take it at night, I am tired, but I don't feel tired when I wake up. I did feel tired during the day when I first started it + SSRIs, but that went away after a couple weeks. Maybe 2-3 wks, looking back.

I am on both lexapro (10 mg) and Remeron (15 mg) and it seems to work better than just lexapro.

On both of these things, I am very emotionally strong. I seldom feel depressed or anxious and I can go with the inevitable flow and insults of everyday life much better than I did before. (Or is it all just a coincidence?)

On remeron, you do have to watch out for weight gain. I had to cut out ALL sugar and white flour to manage the cravings. Now I feel like that is manageable.

During the day, I feel alert. I do need to make sure to get 8 full hours of sleep though and not to take the Remeron too late at night.

There's no doubt that it's good for sleep. It actually deepens sleep, and in that respect (alone) I was impressed.

Yeah I've never understood that either. I always felt super depressed and horrendously lethargic the entire next day after taking Remeron (esp the 1st half of day). I tried it twice for 30 days more or less each time and I never developed tolerance to the fatigue. I guess some people do though-- or they like the fatigue.

I've been taking 60 mgs a night. I've pushed it up to 75 and 90 sometimes, but the increase doesn't seem to do much good. Hasn't helped me a whole lot with depression or anxiety.
