I sure haven't been in a fight but LOOK AT ME!

Posted by JaclinHyde on March 4, 2006, at 19:21:10

Be away for a few days and missed you guys. Keeping in mind the fact that I am a card carrying hypochondriac PLEASE can someone tell me what is happening in my Parnated body? I have almost over night turned into a mass of black and blues. I had this when I first started Nardil but it was NEVER this massive and always went right away. I, who pretend to know everthing there is to know about the MAOI's DO know I have seen this when describing the dangers of said drugs etc. need a bit more help. If I do my old "oh I must be dying because I have this strange pain in left kneecap, better google it to find out" I will just start scarying myself to death. I need calm heads and warmer hearts then my own here. :-)

I can relate to you. Black and Blue? do you take a lot of aspirin or any blood thinners? Sounds like maybe a trip to a regular doctor. Now I have to say I started jogging a little bit and since I did my back is splottchy black and blue. I refuse to pay it mind but in the back of my mind I always wondering am I doing my body harm? Good luck Phillipa

You know now that you mention it I was taking a higher dose of aleve for a toothache I was having plus I do take garlic and fish oil religiously every day. But I mean, I can't leave the house without having people think my husband is beating me, that is how bad this looks. The Parnate dose was upped right before this happened too. A combination?

Parnate and other MAOIs can cause hypotenstion, in combination with naproxen could feasibly be causing this. All I can say is definately check up with your doctor. I would recommend staying away from Aleve for the time being, or any other OTC pain meds that could thin your blood as Jan suggested. Might consider falling back to the original dose of Parnate as well. Have blood work done.

Regards,

Matt

Wow, that's really wierd..I would definitely tell your pdoc about this asap. How much Parnate are you taking now? All in morning or split? Are you sleeping better now? Trazodone is really working for me now...haven't had insomnia for over a week. Hope your feelin' good!

Hi.

Thrombocytopenia is a possible side effect of Parnate. This is a condition where there is a decrease in the number of blood platelets. Easy bruising is a consequence of this condition.

Probably time to call the doctor.

I agree with Scott. Time for a CBC.

GO TO A HOSPITAL. YOU MAY HAVE THROMBOCYTOPENIA AND MAY BLEED TO DEATH UPON MINOR INJURY. THIS IS SERIOUS.

I am posting this again to make sure I get your attention. You NEED to get a platelet count done ASAP. BE CAREFUL, DO NOT ALLOW YOURSELF TO TRIP & FALL, ETC!

What you are describing sounds a LOT like thrombocytopenia and can be life-threatening.
