Back On~

Hi to all.
This is "Buckeye Fan" under a new name...I have been away so long I forgot my old password so I re-registered.

I have been through some extremely stressful life events lately( havnt we all lol)....so I asked my MD to up my Zoloft to 100mg and continue my Xanax regime of 2mg's ...3 times per day.

I think the 50 mg's of Zoloft had pooped out a while ago ( 2 years)...and since I have been on Xanax since 1998...I am definetely addicted both physically and mentally.

My problem seems to be that without Xanax I cannot relax at all...and grow increasingly uncomfortable the longer I try to delay my dose.

Any ideas or success out there on how to ween off Xanax ....and then what can take its place???? The MD Doc told me that Xanax "trumphs"most other sleep meds and relaxing meds. He gave me a few sample paks of the new 'Lunesta" sleep med...but warned me that it was weaker than Xanax...and that most Benzo users at my dose and above, have trouble finding anything to take Xanax's place...anybody know WHY Xanax ( Alpralolem) is so powerful???\

Thanks in advance

BF

Valium and klonopin both have a longer half-life ask to switch to preferable valium as it is used to detox from xanax. Fondly, Phillipa

Thank you Phillipi,

If anyone else can be helped..I did find this the following...which explained to me WHY the order in which we detox our meds or go from one to another is important:

http://www.theroadback.org/

Addressing withdrawal side effects is accomplished through specifically designed products for benzodiazepine withdrawal.
The products are: Power Barley Formula, Omega 3 and Vital Sleep. All three products are used for psychotropic drug withdrawal but each type of medication has their own sequence of product use.
Benzodiazepine withdrawal is different than antidepressant withdrawal. Withdrawal side effects are usually different as well as the rate of speed a person can reduce the medication.

Many people are taking more than one psychotropic medication at a time. Some medications can increase the time other medications take to clear the body.
If you begin reducing the wrong medication first, you will go into withdrawal from the other medication even though you never reduced the dosage.

Example: If you are taking Zoloft and Ambien, Zoloft increases the Ambien by 43%. If you were to begin reducing the Zoloft first, you would probably experience Ambien withdrawal even though the Ambien was never reduced. Many benzodiazepines do the same.
