Pill to make me feel nothing?

Posted by Nikita on February 7, 2006, at 9:54:03

I realize that wouldn't be healthy, but everything hurts too much. Isn't there a medication to make me feel nothing? I'm already on Lexapro, Wellbutrin and Zonegran. Things that would just make someone a little sad, feel unbearable to me. So isn't there something I can take to numb it all?

Yes. Unfortunately, in the long run, you wouldn't want to do that. Anything that obliterates your emotions that much is addictive, and that opens you to a whole new set of problems. I went down that road once and I am more than a little surprised that I'm alive.

Pills that do what your looking for are not meant to be used in that manner. It is a very temporary fix in any event, because they don't numb you for long and, like all drug addictions, you have to keep taking more to get the same effect. You have to trust me when I say that you think you know where rock bottom is now, but if you get tangled up in that mess it will bring a whole new meaning to the word 'pain'.

How long have you been on your current meds? You really should go see your doc, and make sure he/she knows what’s going on. I know it's indescribably horrible changing meds all the time trying to get yourself stabilized, but it DOES get better.

Post as often as you like. Ask anything you need to. We are all in this together.

Thanks Shame. I didn't really think about that being addicting, so thanks. Most of the time, I'm o.k., been on my meds for about four years now. The Zonegran really helps with my thoughts and BPD and I've been SI free for three years now. It's just when something hurts, it hurts so much, it's unbelievable. Then I feel like an idiot because what I'm upset about is usually really stupid. I don't know why that is. I do know I'm more susceptible when I'm really tired or have been drinking so I try to watch that. I just don't know how one person's low can be devastaing to someone else. Anyway, thanks for you words and good luck yourself.

One thing you have to keep in mind is that the first thing that severe depression does to you, is it takes away your judgement. Using other people as a sounding board never hurts.

Do you feel better late in the day? Morning makes me feel like I have to do something and night says ahhhh I can relax. Depression is a bummer. Fondly, Phillipa

Hi Nikita,
i'm sorry that you're in a place where you feel so sad and things are so unintolerable. There is no pill that i've tried - but whenever i can't stand everything anymore because it's so hard i go to bed, hold on to my teddy and pretend that he is the only thing in the world. It feels like i don't exist anymore- i feel nothing. It's worked for hours and days once.

i hope things get better, though,
take care,
kerria
