Been on Effexor for over 6 years now. It's been pretty good for me, but side effects do get me down sometimes. Trouble is, I'm finding myself winding back down into the darkness very slowly over past few months. I'm still taking my med but it seems to be less effective.Hee hee...said the memory was bad, didn't I? Forgot that's what I was on about, in 10 seconds flat! Typical, absolutely typical in fact.

hi has anyone noticed a change in theyre eye sight sense being on effexor? i have noticed that sometimes it is hard to focus and it seems my eye sight has gotten worse. not sure if it is the med or if i have hit the age for bi focals. thanks, tonya

I felt eye pressure in both eyes a first I went to the eye doctor, and look at my eyes and did a pressure check and found everything was okay. my suggestion is to get them checked out it should only take aboout 20 mins to do. take care

I have been on Effexor for 5 years and I am now slowly coming off it. I too have just lately noticed a difference in my vision. I wear glass varifocals and am now finding it difficult to focus sometimes. There seems to be a reflection and I find that I can see better without them for distance. My memory has gone down hill too but that is probably age.
Has anyone started to come off the drug after a long time like me? I now take a 37.5 mg every other day for the next 4 days and that is it. I missed one for the first time yesterday and felt dreadful by the afternoon. Very light-headed and felt sick all night. Had nightmares too. Took my tablet this morning and started to feel better by the afternoon. I am now dreading tomorrow as it is my miss one day.

Now on my second day of withdrawal from Effexor. Now down to 37.5 mg. Miss a day, then next day take one. I have enough left until Thursday then thats it. Don't know what to do now as I feel so awful when I miss the dosage, light-headed, nauseous, worse when I am walking about. As soon as I take my next dose I begin to feel better. Wondering how long the withdrawal feelings last, or would I be better just taking 37.5 mg forever?
I might add that after 5 years of taking this medication and 6 months of counselling my depression has gone, thank goodness, its just this withdrawal problem. While I was coming down from 150 mg daily, I felt fine, no problems. Anyone any thoughts please.

i was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this,my doc told me i could take the meds morning or night whichever i prefered so i've been taking it a night but in the mornings i am exhausted and by afternoon i need a nap should i start taking it in the mornings?would that make a difference?

Hi usually for effexor xr you start on on 37.5mg for 3-4 days then increase to 75mg. This is how the starter kit by the drug company works it actually gives you 37.5mg for seven days which is how I did it. My DR. says for any increase or decrease you shoud be on a dose for at least four days before making any changes. This will minimize side effects such as nausea and dizziness.

I forgot to add that it has not made me emotionally unavailable but it has made me a lot less stressed and better able to cope. My mind is much more clearer and it tool away my headaches. I was taking my medicaion in the am but the insomnia was so bad the pharmacist said try the am. It has not really helped that much still have trouble falling asleep.

I take 150mg of XR in the morning for the past three months. I had the usual start up side effets, but those are gone. After twenty years of insomnia, I can now sleep. I feel good during the day. More energy, more interest in daily activities, less negative thinking, less angst AND I've lost 15 lbs. without even trying. Effexor totally changed my life for the better!!

I have been on Effexor XR for about 3 weeks. It has been the worst 3 weeks of my life. I had a hard break up with a girlfriend and my doctor gave me Effexor. I reacted very badly to it. I became manic and nervous and never slept more that acouple hours. I ended up trying to leave college and sell my car to try an get away from all the stress. I then blew up and attacked everything in my apartment causing my roommate to become so scared he moved out. The drug made me hurt my life so much. If you start taking this drug and start feeling angry. Talk to a doctor take to anyone who doesn't anger you. I have hurt mylife so much by become so manic and angry. Please never do I did. It made my problems 10 times worst. Has anyone else had anything like this happen?

I can't figure out how anyone is losing weight with this stuff. I've been on Effexor xr 150mg for about 9 months..still exhausted, eating constantly, sweating, dry mouth, dizzy, no sex drive...etc etc etc. going to a "mental health nurse" tomorrow..hopefully give me an idea what to do or if i need something different..somebody has to know something. my gp wants to help but i think "mental stuff" stumps him

hey just to let people know that for some people this med works great for others it doesnt. just because you may have a bad reaction to it doesnt mean it is going to effect someone else the same. i have been on it for over a month and it has helped me. everyone is different. and what may work for some may not for others.

I don't know if this counts, but one of the side effects I had comming off effexor was flying into a fit of rage, which happened twice so far. I've been off for almost two weeks... I hope that your dr took you off it immediatly. Are things better with you now?

Effexor is not the most suitable treatment for premature ejaculation. The withdrawal symptoms are too severe. Fluoxetine is a more appropriate choice.

things seem to be getting better since I blew up and was feeling so paniced and manic. My Dr. took me off it slowly and yesterday was actually the last day I took it. He gave me some mild muscle relaxant to help if I feel like I'm going to be go into another fit of rage. So far everything has been much better off of the Effexor. It's like night and day. On it I felt like everything was against me and i needed to fight back, off of it I feel semi normal again. Problems are still there but not feeling like I need fix everything right now, is much better and I think healthier. Has anyone else has any rage or manic behavior from Effexor?

I wouldn't take effexor for premature ejaculation because it is living hell to come off for some people including myself!! Your're lucky to reach climax at all on effexor or most antidepressants. Prozac would be OK but if you find you can't climax at all, which is also another side effect and a rather frustrating one at that, Luvox (fluvoxamine) has the least sexual side effects, so you can have your cake and eat it too!! :) It still delays it with a happy ending for all involved :p
