Ambien - only works within 15 mins, then OPPOSITE?

Posted by becksA on November 14, 2005, at 21:47:00

Like the topic says, I've got this problem with ambien. I take 10mg, and it seems if I go right to sleep it usually works, but after it really kicks in, if I'm still awake, the "trippy" effect kicks in and sometimes I can't fall asleep for hours. Anybody have this effect?
Is CR any better? (I saw an ad for it recently but don't know anything)

Do you hallucinate on Ambien? Hallucinations seem relatively common with Ambien but rare with benzos. Have you tried temazepam?

Yes the CR version is MUCH better in my opinion. It lasts longer and keeps me asleep longer compared to the regular Ambien.

that explains IT!

My friend (whom I just posted about having to be put in the psych ward) was given Ambien Monday night.

Since they couldn't get her in a room at the psych unit, they asked me to bring her home with me until they could get one the next day (she could not go home).

So before we left the hospital Monday night- they gave her 10 mg's of Ambien. It's a 45 minute drive from the hospital to my house.

In about 20 minutes, she falls fast asleep (and I was SOOO relieved, she had been crying non stop for 8 hours!).

Then, as I am driving, she wakes up and is totally talking out of her head.. She is seeing fire in the car, telling me visitors are coming over for dinner (it was after midnight!), telling me her foot was slipping on the slippery sand in my car, etc..

I couldn't help but laugh at her- but the weird part was that she was completely awake. But I couldn't convince her that those things' weren't real, so I just played along.

ROFL

SOOO... IT WAS the Ambien.

Keep in mind it is a HYPNOTIC and every one being very different . I know if I stay up too much past the dopey tired feeling it is hard to fall asleep! It can and will do different things. I remember a time when I actually looked forward to taking it in a very low stress environment and then I would just sit there watching late night TV and just waiting till it fully kicked and then la la land. As far as hallucianations I never had any, but anything is possible. I am taking the CR version off and on and the "jury " is still out!
