Last ques.....

Posted by willyee on November 15, 2005, at 19:57:16

Ok last question and ill stop bugging for a while......

Tomorrow i got to see my Doc,right now i take Nuerontion sparinngly.I mainly do so because i simply cant afford it to try it and more frequent doses,so i use very small amounts now to co exist with a benzo.

I know there is pregabalin, and i hear this is actualy BETTER and CHEAPER ?

I will mention it to my doc tommorrow, can anyone tell me if they actualy did find pregabalin to be NOTABLY more effective than Nuerotion.

Is it possable in a case where i partialy respond well to Nueroiton that i could have a much more robust response to pregabalin?

Thanks you.

There have been several folks who have tried Lyrica and have posted about their findings. Searching the archives might give you some info about other's experiences.

The last I heard, US FDA did not approve it for GAD and only for neuropathic pain and recently for partial onset seizures. So, any other use would be off label - which some docs are certainly willing to do. I believe the reason it was not approved for GAD was not due to lack of effect but a pesky finding of increased tumor growth in lab rats. GAD being such a widespread disorder I think they preceived the risk versus benefit profile to be concerning. Whether this should have been a reason to "hold" it for that approval - I don't really know and is a question that some folks voiced strong opinions on. I'm just putting the info here as I recall it.

It's worth a talk about. It's looked very promising in studies - whether that equates to good results in general use is something I think you should talk with your pdoc about.

Are you sure it's cheaper?

Thanks for the response.Seen her today, was discouraged from the start when i seen how packed her office was, usualy when it is she is more dofficult to deal with.

BUT she was very nice and calm, surprinsgly she was not even aware of pregablin, and showed interest wrote it down and said shell speak to the rep.

Then we spoke,i showed her i had the ritalin bottle, she said she had no fears of me abusing medication, and oked upping the ritalin.

I suggested if i should use a anti-psychotic and she said she wants to hold off on that idea since it would be contradicting with her prescbiring ritalin.

She did however on her own dig into her closet and hand me 4-5 boxers of sub-lingual klonopin wafers because i dont have insurance,i was really touched.

I dident ask her for them or anything.A lot of times she is agigtated and i wanna jump ship, but visits like this make me relaise shes a bit older, and remeber how i felt mod day on my job,and try to be understanding,if i left i think over all it would be my loss big time,Thank you DR hill.
