Hello all,
I've been on Parnate for the past 2 weeks or so, and my depression has lifted-- finally!
I had an appointment with my pdoc today, and he wants me to taper off of Lamictal for 2 weeks and then stop taking it completely.
I've been taking 200 mg for about a year and a half (maybe more), and it's never been clear that it has benefited me. I went through my worst depression within a few months after starting it, but had relief for several months after adding 50 mg of Cytomel to the Lamictal. Besides Parnate, Cytomel has been the only med that has helped me. I've been through all the rest of them! I'm a bit nervous to mess with my meds now that I'm feeling better, but I also like the idea of having to take less medicine.
My diagnosis has always been unipolar depression with atypical symptoms.
If anyone has any thoughts about this or similar experiences in quitting Lamictal, I would be very interested to hear. Thank you.

Hi!
If you don't mind my asking, could you please tell me what symptoms of your depression the Cytomel has dealt with? And, are you hypothyroid, or is the Cytomel being used to augment the AD you are taking?
Thanks so much.

At one point i tried to use lamictal to augment parnate, actualy it was recomended by my doc.....well the lamictal seemed to immediatly kill the little anti-depressant effect left i was getting,so i quickly stopped it.
Needless to say many people find lamictal very useful,i personaly dident,it did not agree with parnate for me.

My thyroid level was on the normal/low end (I don't remember the numbers), but mostly the doctor gave the Cytomel to me it because my symptoms were similar to someone who has hypothyroidism. These symptoms included low energy, slow metabolism/constipation, dry skin, generally "slowed down" generally. Cytomel helped a lot. As I mentioned, I was on Lamictal at the time (and depressed!) and continued with that until now.

That's a positive thing to hear-- maybe it will enhance the effects of the Parnate. I hope so. So far, so good-- I'm feeling braver socially for sure. I'm actually on my way to have dinner with an ex-boyfriend right now who I've barely seen since we broke up-- and we were together for 4 years! Sorry for the digression, but it reflects the help Parnate has already given me with social anxiety. We'll see how it goes!
This is the end of the thread.
