Quaaludes...legal in canada?

Posted by med_empowered on November 14, 2005, at 13:34:36

OK, I don't know how I found this out but...apparently, Quaaludes are still (or were until recently) legal and available by Rx in Canada. The article I read said that internationally, they're a schedule II drug; in the US, they're banned outright, but in Canada they're a schedule III (it also said that China still has it available by Rx and India still produces underground Mandrax capsules that are shipped all over the place). Is this true? So...does this mean that the whole "quaaludes are super addictive, blah blah blah" thing was really over-blown? Does Methaqualone offer some sort of therapeutic advantages in certain cases? Could the US experience with quaaludes have been caused in part by reckless prescribing?

Hi Med,

Methaqualone is not available in Canada :-(

>Could the US experience with quaaludes have been caused in part by reckless prescribing?

Kind regards

My mom took Quualude.

My dad said she went to a party and was in the bathtub knocked out on Quualude.

I dont think its medically useful even it causes some helpful sleep.

Quualude got banned in 1985 in the US, because of to many recreational uses.

Its still available but in a mixture with benadyl in some country.... i dont know.

Matt

mmmm More 70's, quualude eventally got a repuation as a barbiturate in the early 80's before it got banned in '85.

Excuse me for this language, this was a popular saying:
"let go do some ludes and f*uck" by collage folks, rock stars.

Sorry. ROFL

for some reason i read people used to use it for sex, subsitute a heroin high, parties.., in i think the early 70's to mid.

Anyway, Quaalude was a ok sleep medication like seconal, but it got black boxed for its abuse.

Sad.

Matt

Oh my goodness! I have just had one of those moments.

The band The Tubes. Fee Waybill as Quay Lude, glitter rocker, White Punks on Dope.

I just checked, and the band still exists! They're on tour!

No. Can't be.

I'm sorry, I accidentally quoted text that might be uncivil. Is it possible that can be edited to make it acceptable?

I thought I was an anachronysm.....

The first time the Tubes played Toronto, they had to play after 11 p.m. because their show was too risque. A titty or two too many.

Here's their current show list:

Guess that's one of those Rites of Passage...

Yes, great show, all that -- but didn't compete with, say, The Damned, but that's prolly my view of Cap'n Sensible...

Thanks for the smile.

Sad part is, I used to adore 'ludes. All I could think of, as I drifted into that bliss, was mellow spiders...

Methaqualone (Quaalude) rife in SA

Illegal Methaqualone+an antihistamine are widely available in South Africa, where they are Often smoked! with weed-sendind the user into a passed out state for a few minutes, followed by several hours of ttranquality-apparently this is their MAIN drug problem.

The problem with methaqualone is that 300mgs of the stuff is needed for desired effects (large volumes of raw material) as opposed to Diazepam where 20mgs is often sufficient, as usual the illegal drug market favoured less bulky and more potent drugs.

Cheers
