Parnate WITH Moclobemide ? What do you think?

Posted by Muad' Dib on November 12, 2005, at 7:57:49

What do you think of combining Parnate with Moclobemide (both low doses - Parnate 20mg, Moclobemide 75-150mg). Via MAO inhibition - Parnate mainly increases DA and NA, Moclobemide SA and NE.

What do you think?

How do you know that Parnate doesn't increase serotonin by an amount comparable to dopamine and norepinephrine?

What has been your experience with each of these drugs?

As far as the combining of the two drugs, I have never followed anyone who has tried it. It sounds very interesting, though.

Were you thinking of beginning both drugs at the same time? If not, I really don't know which order is safest. I can guess though. I think you should try moclobemide first and establish a dosage of 300mg first. Then add in the Parnate at a dosage of 30mg. I am basing this guess on the tradition of establishing a tricyclic first before adding Parnate. Of course, I might be guessing wrong. However, I have combined Parnate with TCA quite a few times, and for me, the order made no difference.

I guess the two events that are most dangerous are:

1. Hypertensive event

2. Serotonin Syndrome

I think you should be prepared with a supply of antidotes for both possible sequalae.

1. nifedipine or phentolamine for hypertensive crisis

2. cyproheptadine for serotonin syndrome

Become familiar with the symptoms of both events.

If you have never followed anyone whos done it then my posts must go unread, unnoticed, etc.I actualy believe they do.

Well since i wrote this i might as well add my exper to the question at hand,i took both, not because i planned on it,but it turned out that way,i was desperate and tried it.

I used a fairly low amount of molcimide, but it actualy was a nice compliment to parnate.

I DID NOT take them simotaniously, however i spread them out,and the molcimide basicaly allowed me to take less parnate, with a little bit more benifit.

I actualy remeber a day of two of having a really good response on both, but for the most part it just alliveates any craving for parnate at inadequate times,my overall dosage of parnate went down, and symptoms slighty improved.

So personaly i would say it SHOULD be ok to add in fair amounts, however when i took molcimide alone it did not help.Just added to parnate allowed it to be of usefulness.

The effect was nice enough, and the price low enough that i would have kept on using it,the fact that it takes forever to obtain is why i dont,i dont like looking in my mail box everyday.

Hi Willyee

Please don't take offense to my not reading or forgetting your posts regarding combining Parnate + moclobemide. I have followed your posts regarding the combining of Parnate + Nardil.

People DO read your posts - at least I do.

:-)

Actually, I don't read very many posts at all. My cognitive impairments don't allow me to. Please do not take it personally if I don't happen to follow a thread that you have participated in. I do try to answer posts directed at me, though. Still, I don't always have the mental energy to answer all of them.

Willyee, you are an important contributor here whose posts do not go unnoticed.

Dont take my post the wrong way.I considered sls posts informative, and always follow them mainly because hes on the same meds as myself, aside from the fact his posts are informative.

The fact that i respect his postings is what disappointed me to think he doesent read mine. But
i totaly understand where hes commng from, sometimes the most simplest things seem huge when ur roughing it out.Again it was out of respect that i was most disapointed, but i 100 percent understand.
