Does Anyone LIke Strattera??

Posted by Ryan2828 on September 30, 2005, at 19:53:04

I just got some Strattera from my doc and I am looking forward to seeing what it can do for me. I heard it is a mild stimulant but I hope it is effective and energizing but, what do you all say?

Is it as energizing as ritalin and adderal? Fondly, Phillipa

No, more like a weak cup of coffee.

I know its very early but I dont feel a darn thing from Strattera, I know I only took 40mg and this is the first day for me. I hope there are other energizing drugs that are more uplifting and if this doesnt work than I will try something else.

I took it for a while for depression

I think it was helping a lot, but there were problems with anxiety at the time. I was also taking it with some other drugs, so who knows what caused what. (Dr EyeCandy liked to switch three or four drugs at once...)

Overall, though, I really think it was very helpful for my depression -- even though it really isn't supposed to be, according to the studies.

Hope that helps.

I took Strattera a few years ago. It was certainly not the worst drug I've ever taken; however, I thought Reboxetine, which is also a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, was better. Reboxetine was a better antidepressant for me, and it was faster-acting. The problem with Reboxetine, for me, was that I live in the U.S., and Reboxetine is not available here. Ordering it from overseas was just too much of a hassle.

If you do decide to try either Strattera or Reboxetine, I urge you to start at the lowest dose possible and build up the dose very slowly to minimize the anxiety and other side effects that can occur with NE-enhancing drugs. I started Strattera on 10 mg, although the manufacturer recommended starting at something like 40 and building up to 80 mg. The usual therapeutic dose for Reboxetine is 8 mg/day, I believe. That's MUCH too high for a starting dose. Try starting at 1 or 2 mg and staying there for at least a week or more before increasing it in very small, gradual increments.

The only thing I dont understand about Strattera is if its fast acting like a stimulant would be or if it has to be taken for several weeks to notice the difference

Are you currently on a stimulant? If so, do you plan to get off of it when you start Strattera? The reason I ask is that when I tried it, I had just gotten off a stimulant, just as I had just gotten off a stimulant when I started Reboxetine. So, the first few days on each of those new AD's were also days of withdrawal from the stimulants. Therefore, I was tired and slept a lot.

If you are looking to use Strattera as an antidepressant, I would say that AD effects would probably take a few weeks. You'll probably notice a few changes right away, but those are probably highly individual. Also, whenever you start a new med, it can take some getting used to. I think you just have to try it and see how you respond to it. Remember to start at a low dose and work up slowly.

I have never been on any A.D.D. drug I am currently on Effexor xr 225mg. What does Strattera actually do? I don't know what to look for in how I feel etc to determine if its the Strattera. How did Strattera make you feel?

I have been on Strattera for about 4 weeks. I started at 40mg and vomitted the first day. The second day I emptied out the contents of one of the pills so I was taking less. The third day I was back to 40mg. Now I'm at 80mg (about 2.5 weeks). Initially I noticed some good improvement for the first week and then any improvement disappeared. It could have been just the placebo effect initially. I'm taking this with 20mg of Prozac (only partial response) and my doctor was hoping the Strat would help with depression, but also cognitive deficiencies. I haven't noticed any real stimulating effects and I have taken ritalin and modafanil. If anything the stimulating effects don't resemble the true stims at all. My doctor said Strat could take about 3 weeks to really work. The last two days have been ok but I had a few very BAD days this past week. I'm going on 5-6 years of TRD, but my anxiety level is zero, maybe because of the prozac and lexapro before that. By the way the sexual side effects have been kinda bad. I'm looking into MAOI's now. Shoot me any questions you might have! Great board.

It's nothing like a stimulant. Barely noticeable, less distraction, less wandering. Can cause daytime sleepiness and other side effects if your doctor doesn't take time to ramp up to the right dose. I noticed effecst after two weeks and after three months concluded that I wanted to try a stimulant in addition.

So far I don't think this drug is that great. I am growing suspicious that I have had ADD for years and not even realize it.

Is Strattera more or less the same as UK Reboxetine? Is so, Reboxetine made me, with bipolar a possible reason, Mixed Manic. Actually that just doesn't describe the sheer skin-tearing off raw/ inflammed brain against aching skull/ utter despairing/ restless/ impossible to carry on any more/ feelings that this med induced.

My dh first of all helped me contain my nightmare and offered soothing refrains and massage and useful pressure against wild muscles.

I had to have a doctor come to me and he was so ticked off at me for wasting his night service with what he thought was triviality, but I now know of at least two other women in town who completed suicide associated with anti-depressant induced Mixed Mania.

So---though he will never know--- it wasn't a waste of his medical expertise, if saving lives is what it is all about. I'm sorry if this Reboxetine is not like Stratter, but I can always imagine how a person could impulsively suicide due to reactions like the one I experienced.

My lifetime of miserable episodes has actually strengthened and informed me, so I can believe, as I did with the Reboxetine reaction, but only just, that the horrible hell will soon pass and my life will once again be blessed. ramsea
