This thread will probaly be redirected, but either way, this is the first time I have heard someone go through what I have experienced on WBSR.
Dang!!

I am wondering if WBSR causes this crap, it hurts something fierce! After, oh, I believe 3 solid months, I am getting the exact same thing that only OTC antihistamines are even putting a dent in: dizziness and headaches (like a serious sinus infection)<<EXACTLY!! So, I'm on an antibiotic and still feel horrible.
Not liking this.
I wonder too, if there is a chemical difference or some folks just react this way. Even at a low dose this is happening.

wellbutrin XL has a weird release system. Part of the pill isn't digested and you "number 2" it out. It gave me hives. I don't know if SR has that. Your problem doesn't seem like an allergic reaction, though.

What does that mean?

That's interesting. I have been a bit angrier and irritable lately, but it could be totally unrelated to the WBSR. *crosses fingers*

One is SLOW RELEASE (SR) and one is EXTENDED RELEASE (XL). The SR needs to be taken twice a day, while the XL requires only once-a-day dosing. My concern is in the release action. Perhaps different ingredients are used to formulate each version. Maybe one ingredient/chemical causes more side effects than the other. So I'm wondering of those formerly on SR who are now on XL found XL better or worse, and why?

I take the SR, once a day, not twice, am I missing something? Are you sure it's not the other way around -> the XL version needs to be taken twice a day?

Nope. Check the website. I quote directly from it: "WELLBUTRIN XL vs SR

If you have been diagnosed with depression, and your doctor currently treats your depression with a twice-daily regimen of WELLBUTRIN SR® (bupropion HCl) Sustained-Release Tablets, here's some great news — WELLBUTRIN XL contains the same active ingredient as WELLBUTRIN SR, but WELLBUTRIN XL is formulated in an extended-release, once-daily tablet. This means that with WELLBUTRIN XL, you can take one tablet in the morning, continue with your daily activities, and not worry about remembering to take a second dose. "

I initially went on Wellbutrin SR (100 mg first thing in a.m. and 100 mg @ lunchtime...yep twice a day!).

Once the XL version came out my doc suggested I try it. Within 3-4 days I thought I was gonna kill someone, itching began (almost like bugs crawling in and outta my skin). There was something about the XL I just couldn't handle. I went back on the SR (still doing 100 mg in a.m. and another 100 mg at lunchtime) and don't have a problem.

My pdoc said there are some people (she has no explanation) that can tolerate the SR version but cannot tolerate the XL version?!?

I must also mention that I currently augment the Wellbutrin with 40 mg of Lexapro. (I have previously tried it with Zoloft, Effexor XR and Cymbalta as well).

(shrugs) I know it sounds odd but each one of us are different and can react differently to meds. There are some generics (that are 'suppose' to be the copy of the brand) that don't affect me at all!

Hope this helps, God Bless You!

I was wondering how is the lex/wb mix working for you? My doc currently has me on 10mgs of lex and 300mgs of wb. I just started this mix @ 2 1/2 weeks ago and haven't noticed anything better...Also, have you lost weight? The lex made me gain so much and lose sexual interest, I'm wondering will the wb help that even though I'm still on lex...If so, how long will it take????

I have been on XL for 2 weeks. I have noticed that since I have been on it I have headaches that I cannot get rid of. Also, I have a lot more energy and at night when it is time to go to sleep I do not have any problems sleeping. It's like all day I run and then at night I'm coming "down". It also seems that I'm becoming a little bit more obessive about stuff. Like cleaning etc. Has anyone else had any of these experiences? I'm wondering how long it takes for the headaches to go away. I was put on this for depression.

I tried prozac (other SSRI's also), but it didn't agree with me. I was on that for 3 months.

I'm on SR now and was on XL for 2 weeks. The SR hasn't really came through for me yet but I didn't like the XL feeling at all. For some reason I stayed unmotivated and extremely depressed on it. Also I was on generic SR at first and had an allergic reaction to the fillers so now I'm on name brand SR 300mgs per day- just waiting to see some sort of difference...

i have only taken the XL for one day - and i felt anxious the next - very panicky - i am on it for anxiety / panic. from what i have read people gain more weight and have more SEs on the SR - but you can get the SR in a lower dose...and you can cut the SR but not the XL. i wish they made the XL in less than 150 mg b.c i too am soooo sensitive to drugs and felt nuts yesterday (i took my the night before) so i skipped it last night.

I absolutely hated XL, I'd take it first thing in the morning and felt like it was just kicking in 10-11 that night. It made me irritable, angry all the time at only 150 mg. I took SR years ago, I don't think there was a generic then and I was taking 300 mg all in the morning along with zoloft and buspar. I tried splitting the dose but all in the morning worked better for me. It did make me very angry at first but adding buspar helped quite a bit I think. For me a little bit of anger is not such a bad thing anyway, I usually don't get mad over things that probably should make me mad.

I can't really say that the SR was better because I didn't try it solo, I can say that the XR was too long acting for me.

Anyway,
Rick

You can take the SR version once a day, many people do. Doctors prescribed it to many people this way before the XL came out.
