What is Symbyax?

Posted by Kimbersaur on September 8, 2005, at 19:08:38

I read somewhere that it is a combination of Zyprexa (I think?) and Prozac, and that it is supposed to work more with norepinephrine and dopamine, thus speeding up the antidepressant effect or something? Are very many people on it?

You are correct.

I would say that many people take the combination of prozac and zyprexa. I think the main argument against symbyax is that you lack the ability to "fine tune" the doses of prozac and zyprexa.

If may be worth a try, and if you find it somewhat effective then ask your doc to perhaps try to adjust the levels of the two individual drugs.

linkadge is exactly right about the fine tuning. i was on it last year for about a month and half. unfortunately it i think the prozac made my depression worse (or it ddidn't work at all) cuz i ended up in hospital. however the zyprexa does work for me.

i'd would like to hear if anyone is on it and is successful?

I've been on it for over a year in combination with Lamictal and Klonopin for BPII. Manic episodes with me are very rare now but I do have some moderate depression occasionally.
I'm pretty sure it's a blockbuster combo for Lilly.
