Anyone like mirtazapine ?

Posted by linkadge on September 6, 2005, at 17:28:13

Anyone have good results with mirtazapine as a sole antidepressant agent ?

I like it's profile, but geeze I just wish it had worked better. Thinking of second trial.

i believe i've seen goon indication that with effexor it can make one of the most effective if not most effective antidepresant combination.

Yes but has anyone actually tried the combination of effexor and mirtazapine, I can't understand it, considering it's supposed to be so intense how come nobody has tried it?

Maybe I will one day.

Mirtazapine with Effexor/Venlafaxine-Denise

Hey Denise

I have quite a high opinion of Mirtazapine

I used to use it to help me sleep, now I've developed tollerance which is annoying.
I think its the best sleep med I've used, even better than Klonopin and Zolpiderm.

Last April I became very depressed despite being on 225mg of Effexor.
I added 30mgs of Mirtazapine and felt much better the next day! Calm but stimulated.....
The sense of stimulation wore off, and became slightly anxious on the combo
I dropped the Effexor and still got a decent AD effect from the Mirtazapine

I stopped taking it because of the weight gain, and got nasty rebound insomnia.
I'd still have to recommend the combination

I'm on 60mg of prozac and 15mg Remeron (added it about a week and a half ago) the prozac alone didnt seem to do anything for me, but since I added remeron I'm starting to get a parial lift from the depression. The remeron does seem be increasing my appetite, although I'm not worried since I weigh 145lbs and am 6ft. I take it at night, but I dont seem to get a strong sedative affect from it. Interestingly, the first few days on it I did feel a little weak and had low energy.

Hi Tom,

First time I ever tried Mirtazapine was at 15mg and I felt like a total zombie on it, also got panic attacks. I remember forcing myself to go for a drink with a work colleague and he was talking to me and I couldn't even force myself to show an interest in what he was saying. It was horrendous. He then took delight in showing me his new car and all I could think of to say was I didn't like the colour, it was just something to say. But he brought it up not long ago, the fact that I didn't like the colour of his car! If only he new how dreadful I was feeling that day. God how I wish I could get excited about anything.

Not long ago my psychiatrist added 15mg to my 40mg of Seroxat, although it wasn't as bad as the first time I tried it, I just felt odd on it.

Maybe, I should give it another try only at a higher dose, what do you think?

My current plan is to go back on Seroxat 60mg but it had stopped working on me before so not sure what to add if it fails to work again. Maybe I could add effexor and Remeron and if this works then come off the Seroxat, what do you think or is it not safe to add these drugs together at too high doses? To be honest I don't particularly care if I die anyway, sometimes I think if they're not going to work then hopefully they'll just kill me instead. I'm really sick of the worry of this, what drug to take next and what to do next if that doesn't work. It's like my whole life is tied up in planning what drug to take next. Six years ago I was relatively happy, just enjoyed going to work, planning on buying a new flat, enjoyed holidays etc, what the hell happened! I seriously wish I'd had just died before this depression descended on me again, at least I wouldn't have been any the wiser.

Zyprexa is favourite drug at the moment but I only take it when I'm completely at my wits end.

Sorry, if this note got a bit carried away, you were only talking about Remeron and Mirtazapine :-)

Hi,

How did you feel when you first started taking it? My psychiatrist added 15mg of it to my 40mg of Seroxat but it just made me feel even more numb. It was like I was doing things but not really experiencing anything. Does that feeling wear off at all?

I was so awful depressed when I first went on it, its hard to differentiate any negative effects vs the depression. I do know I'm feeling a little better since I started, but certainly not "good." It hasnt seemed improved my motivation so far, but I guess I'll wait and see. I see my p-doc tomarrow, probrobly talk about going up to 30mg. I typically dont respond a lot to meds, not a lot of improvement, but not a lot of side effects either. I'll tell you how I feel if I go up to 30mg though.

I've tried Mirtazepine alone, Effexor alone, and in combination. I like Mirtazepine better than Effexor, and it was a great sleep med; so so for depression, and in fact ultimately made me feel like I didn't have a personality anymore. I didn't much like Effexor.

Ace, I've actually tried Nardil too, for a couple of months. Didn't do it for me. Frankly, nothing I've tried has been great, mostly ADs.

Even though I consider myself unipolar, lately I'm a little hopeful about the response I'm having with Lamictal (100 mgs) and Lithium (around 300 mgs). Sort of low doses of each, and a pinch of Paxil (5 mgs) in the mix too.

Can't call this combo a splendid success, but I am doing somewhat better, and I'm still titrating the Lamictal. I like a little bit of Lithium. It's very calming, and acts better than a benzo for social anxiety. Too much Lithium however, is dumbing.

Anyway, for people that have found no relief from various AD's, it's worth trying Lithium and/or Lamictal, even though you might not consider yourself BP. Might not work, but it just might, and it's worth a shot.
