Confused - doctors , meds?

Posted by TrishP on August 25, 2005, at 14:03:44

Ok - I am officially confused. My regular doctor doesn't like me taking both Effexor 75mg and Wellbutrin 200mg. He thinks I should only be on one and maybe try to add back the Trileptal and drop the Effexor.

Any thoughts?

My p-doc prescribed both for me for over a year, and told me that Wellbutrin acted as an adjunct to Effexor. They worked well together for me until Effexor pooped out.

I took both together for a couple of months but the Wellbutrin did nothing for my depression. It just sedated me. Go figure. I know nothing about trileptal. Good luck!

Did you start them both at the same time? Or were you on one and then added the other for some reason? Maybe if you tell your doctor how you felt before adding the second med and what it added, he/she might be more willing to prescribe that combo if you feel it is working well for you.

It's hard to say without knowing your diagnosis.

I'd be confused, too!

And you want a thought? Who prescribed the two drugs together? Some doctors don't like combining drugs, some doctors just don't like to leave alone what another doctor has prescribed. In the case of Effexor and Wellbutrin, they work complementarily, so it makes sense to try them together.

If you went to a pdoc who prescribed the two together, just suck it up and tell your GP, "Well, the pdoc who prescribed them thought it was a good idea, the combination is working for me, and I just plain don't see any good reason to change it." If he can give you a legitimate reason to change, that's another story, of course.

Best luck to you. I hate it when doctors offer entry into the twilight zone like this.

Whoops, sorry message above meant for Trish (nm)
