Reboxetine/Edronax - Two weeks on

Posted by Meri-Tuuli on July 30, 2005, at 5:50:19

Hey babblefolk! Well for what its worth I'm posting my experiences with reboxetine/edronax (a Selective Noradrenline Reuptake Inhibitor)

So....currently I'm on a 1/4 of a tab of celexa one daily (5mg/day) and half a tab of reboxetine twice daily (4mg in total/day)

And well..... its good! I have noticed several good things. I have more energy, motivation and concentration. I no longer need to sleep all the time. I am losing the weight celexa made me put on (around 20lbs, although I was pretty thin then BMI ~19)

And its affecting me in more subtle ways than I would imagine. I am alot less implusive - which is a good thing, and I can plan ahead if you know what I mean. I think about my finances rather than not checking my bank balance for weeks. Its really nice, because I'm starting to feel in control of my life. Not sure I'm making sense. Anyway.... its still early days. Also I don't have any depression/aniexty which I guess is the whole point!

So the bad things...well, a touch of insomnia, at the very begining which quickly wore off. I think it might make my heart beat ever so slightly faster, and I definatley get a head rush when I stand up too fast, but I have always had this, its just abit worse now. I sweat alot more now and get really hot at times - and this has produced more pimples that the normal one or two I get before my period. However, I think that these are side effects and they will hopefully wear off. Also having a drink really isn't too good an idea, it makes you feel really really weird and you feel wasted on half a lager. Eh well, I never could handle my drink!

So overall - I am really liking it! I'm going still trying to taper off the celexa, although at 1/4 of a tab its going to be physically difficult to break it up even smaller! I need one of those super accurate scales that you get in chemistry labs.....

I realise that some of the good things I'm experiencing might be due to the discontinuation of celexa, but I'm not getting any aniexty/depression so I can only figure that its the reboxetine working.....well we'll see. At the moment, I'm unsure whether to ramp up the reboxetine anymore, but I figure no, its working fine as it is. Plus I've heard bad things when people start at too high a dose.

Take care everyone.....

Hi!

It's great that reboxetine's working :-)

You can get a prescription for Cipramil oral drops - this will help you to discontinue citalopram more easily.... if that's what you want to do.

Hey Meri

Did you get my email?

Glad to hear its going well

Its interesting that Reboxetine seems to be helping your anxiety.
Apparently there's a big link between ADD and anxiety, I'm not quite sure why though

Maybe I'll give Reboxetine a try, apparently it can be safely combined with MAOIs
I'm worried it wouldn't work for me because I can't tolerate caffeine, and people have compared Reboxetine to caffeine

How dose caffeine effect you? And how does it compare to Rebox

Hey Tom,
> Did you get my email?

Cheers, yes I did. I think I'm going to wait awhile before I see any doc privately mainly because I'm moving soon and I won't have a job!

> Its interesting that Reboxetine seems to be helping your anxiety.

Yep, it does, although I am cautious about this because the celexa/cipramil is still in my system and its too early to tell. No problems yet though.

> Apparently there's a big link between ADD and anxiety, I'm not quite sure why though

I didn't know this. I have heard that reboxetine can be used to treat ADD, which is one of the reasons why I wanted to try it - I've scored really highly in some online adult ADD tests.

> I'm worried it wouldn't work for me because I can't tolerate caffeine, and people have compared Reboxetine to caffeine

Really? I didn't know this! hmmmmm......its not really like caffeine.

> How dose caffeine effect you? And how does it compare to Rebox

Well, I do drink coffee, in fact in the mornings I always have a cup and usually one in the afternoon. The one in the afternoon sometomes makes be feel alittle wired. But I think I can tolerate caffine. As for reboxetine being like caffeine, well, I can't really say - I find the reboxetine quite calming to be honest. It keeps me focused in a clear way and also gives me energy. Thing is, before the rebox I was sleeping all the time, had no concentration/energy/motivation (I'm an atypical depressive) so rebox has pushed me into being in the normal zone of stimulation if you like. If you were already quite buzzed then I guess rebox would make you more buzzed, which might be too activating for some people. Also I will have to give it more time, because some of the no energy thing could be down to the celexa side effects. I'm liking it so far!

I think reboxetine is useful if you have atypical depressive symptoms - overeating, oversleeping, lethargy etc. which I have found to be aggrevated by celexa and venlafaxine.

Dunno if your GP would prescribe it - I tried one at the health centre, he said NO WAY but then I tried another one, and he was pretty open to it!

take care
Meri-Tuuli

PS A weird thing happened today - I slipped on the stairs and landed on my *ss (!!LOL) and instead of getting that 'shocked' feeling where your stomach feels like its hit the floor, I got a lightened slightly dizzy feeling.....it was definately strange! I guess its the noradrenaline affecting the 'flight/fight' response.

Each drop contains 2mg - they're great for tapering.

Hey Ed,

Thanks for the info on the drops....at the moment I just cut the tab into 1/4s then I cut that into an 1/8....I guess I should go to the doc and ask about the drops, but as he said I shouldn't take the reboxetine with the cipramil he may not like it too much!

I'll keep on the 1/8s for a week, then, er, go to 1/16s? LOL. But an 1/8 of a tab is 2.5mg, and a drop is 2mg then I guess I should be alright as long as I'm cutting accuratly!!
:o)

PS hows the revision going?

Hi Meri,

I'm so glad that things are going well for you on Reboxetine! Unfortunately, I think a lot of people who've tried it, especially those in the U.S. who've ordered it from overseas, probably started at too high a dose and escalated too quickly. A few years ago I tried it, and I started at too high a dose, so I had lots of insomnia and other side effects; however, I did notice that it seemed to kick in MUCH faster than most other AD's I've tried over the years. My mood improved within a couple of days of starting it. I wish I'd taken a lower dose and just stayed on the lower dose. I might try it again in a few months. I think it's a much better antidepressant than Strattera, although both are norepinephrine reputake inhibitors and have some similar side effects. It's a shame that Reboxetine hasn't been approved for use in the U.S.

How late in the day do you take your second Reboxetine dose?

As Tom mentioned, Celexa (citalopram) is available as a liquid. Perhaps your doctor can rx that for you so you can taper in minute increments more easily.

Sorry, Ed. It was you who recommended the citalopram liquid. I read the posts too quickly.

Hi Sarah!

> I'm so glad that things are going well for you on Reboxetine!

I'm happy with it - its early days yet, but I can't say I've noticed anything negitive about it. (Apart from the side effects, but these have nearly worn off. I still sweat abit too much for my liking though!)

I agree that most people must start on too high a dose - when I first started on just 1/4 a tab twice daily, which is 2mg in total. Now, I'm on half a tab daily, which is 4mg in total. I'm supposed to be taking two tabs a day which is 8mg! Thats quite high, as the max dose is 12mg. I think I'm going to stick it out on the 1/2 tab twice daily dose.

>I think it's a much better antidepressant than Strattera, although both are norepinephrine reputake inhibitors and have some similar side effects. It's a shame that Reboxetine hasn't been approved for use in the U.S.

Have you tried strattera? Isn't that just used for ADD? I read somewhere that rebox isn't approved in the US because of pharmacautical politics and $.

> How late in the day do you take your second Reboxetine dose?

I usually try to take it around 8-9pm. I take the first half when I'm getting ready in the morning. I don't have any insomnia at all. But then, thats never been a problem with me!

take care

If you can do that.... don't worry about the drops! I was just thinking they might be difficult to cut! :-)

Hi!

I think that's a good idea. Tell your doc your taking 4mg twice a day though, that way you'll save money....... £6.50 prescription charge. A months supply will last you two months!
