Oh, I totally agree with you. My answers might be totally different.

A recent experience with my doctor was this: I wait 1 1/2 month to see him. I drive 2.5 hours, and get into his office. I bring him a list of side effects I was having, which I attributed to the zoloft. I also had a list of altrenate ideas.

He would not look at the list of ideas and told me somehting along the lines of "take it at a different time of day" which I had already done a kazillion times.

All I am blaming him for is not being agressive in the treatment, essentially not caring. He just keeps doing the same things over and over again.

I am sorry for complaining about doctors, but I am doing it for a reason. Maybe people on this board have had similar negative experiences, and know of ways to help out.

Thats why I post my negative experiences with doctors.

Why the hostility? This is a forum which means that your comment "get lives people" wasn't necessary. Have you ever heard the saying if you have nothing nice to say-say nothing? Maybe you need to get a life instead of putting others down?-Carolina

Depression is about self obsession. Consumed with how you feel. If you begin to think of things other than yourself, depression can lift. That is why I said what I said, and I stand by it!

> Please people, take your pill and stop complaining about it! It is all we have! Stop blaming docs! If you do not like them, don't take them but I am tired of all the doctor bashing! It is all they have and you have. If they don't help, stop and try something else.
> There is NO concpiracy! Get lives people!

I had worked in the pharmaceutical industry for eighteen years and believe me there is definitely a conspiricy. The conspiricy is to make as much money as possible. That in itself is not a bad thinsg. However, when I start a med that is offering me the hope of feeling better and I am feeling worse I need answers. I did a medline search, which is a search of studies in peer reviewed journals and there is very little out there about the side effects of the psychosocial drugs we are being prescribed. Additionally, unless you are being seen by a specialist in the field of psychiatry, it is very likely the GP/IM/FP has a deep understanding of these drugs they are prescribing. Did you know that many drug companies do not even promote these drugs to the GP/IM/FP? And that what they know of them they see in journal ads similar to the ones we see on TV or in magazines. It is shocking to me to find this out and sad. No one wants to just stop taking their med, but I can correctly state that everyone wants to feel good, strong, happy, motivated. I also need to know I am not alone in feeling the way I do so shame on you for putting us down. I have a life and I just want it to feel better.

There doesn't need to be a conspiracy, ordinary vices and social policy will see to it.
Naturally people will complain about bad care. Lots of people must have so many stories they've come across they've forgotten and hardly ever mention them. (I certainly have).
What's so good about the standard of care? I'm not complaining myself, I'm lucky, but not all are. Anyway most of the population believes psychiatry is bunk, don't they?

When I did psych nursing all we were told was to call the pharmacy who printed out a sheet with the most likely side effects and what they were supposed to do. Always they include every imaginable side effect there is. That's to protect their you know what. Fondly, Phillipa

to let u know, i think of others way more than i think of myself. when u are able to disprove that some have a chemical balance and that the depression is not b/c some1 is "SELF-OBSESSED" then i guess u will be rich b/c u will know more than most do re: this area. everyone undergoes mood changes in their lives but until u have truly been where some of us are you cannot begin to comprehend what an awful feeling it is and how it only makes it worse when people such as yourself say it can be lifted by thinking of others. i am one of the most stubborn and strong willed people many know and have tried to "WILL" myself out of depression. it doesn't work that easy, even though i wish it did. can a person will their way through cancer?,diabetes?,HIV?,etc.. I am not saying that a positive attitude cannot help people that are ill but i have never known of some1 to cure HIV b/c they are not self obsessed and think of others. the problem is that depression along w/other mental illnesses is not viewed as an illness in the same category when there is more medical evidence every day that it is an illness and requires medical help. to each his own though-Carolina

We're not just thinking about ourselves. Thats why we're here !! Not just to get help but to help others.

But yeah, do you tell someone with cancer to stop complaining and take their mind off theirselves ?

I will agree that depressed people think about themselves, but thats why depression exists. Usually we get depressed because the world ask so much of us that we don't have the willpower to care about ourselves.

If we don't express our pain, who will ??

You people have no idea of my struggles! I have been there, and continue to struggle. But, there is a level of responsibility that I believe has to be taken on by the patient as well. Are we so fragile as to not be able to handle any contstructive criticism whatsoever?

well maybe you need to do a little more research into what "constructive criticism" actually is. the way that you come across does not seem constructive to many of us or should i say "YOU PEOPLE". and YES some of the people are fragile which is why they are here for SUPPORT!!! not to be spoken down to like we are ignorant or only want to cry about our situations. and FYI, i think that just participating on this forum is taking "RESPONSIBILITY" by trying to gather info. that may help us. by the way-what degree do u have? just curious since u know much more than us. take care-Carolina

Think your way out of line to come on here and post like this !!

glad your seeking help and have found your meds gr8 doc etc, but some of us are still struggling to the point where we can not trust doctors due to experiences with others..

plse for now keep your neg thoughts to yourselves o post onto another forum as this is a respectable forum where we come for support..

I will back off as it is clear you do not understand what I am trying to say! However, my issues run very deep as well, but feeling sorry for myself is something I am trying to avoid. The attacks against me seem angry and hostile, I am merely hoping we can all develop some much needed backbone! The meds ain't gonna do it alone!

O i completely understand..

meds aint the only ans wer, your post came accross to me as ermm how can i explain, as if you were telling us all to get a life and listen to the docs and if we dont take our meds or moan its our own fault etc etc..

i do say however that meds alone aint the answer and thearpy needs to be included which myself have gotton into and it does work when your on a good day then a bad comes and for me its hard to make myself positive as to know that i can be there again if you get me?

dont want you to feel like we are being angry with you, its just the way your post came out..

Care to put it all back into a kinder version so we can all understand what you mean? in a good way?

ok, maybe u came across wrong which is why we aren't responding to you as warmly as we do others. maybe u should reread ur original post and look at it from "OUR" point of view??? maybe how u MEANT 4 something to sound, it did not??? some of the people on this forum ARE hurting, lonely, confused or just need a kind word of encouragement to let them know that they are not alone. some ask questions RE: meds and discuss issues related to that. just look over ur original post and if u still do not understand the response u are getting then i feel for u...-take care Carolina

I'm not, at least not closely. Are you related to somebody who holds stock in a chemical company or a pharamceutical company?
