Geodon For Obsessional Thoughts

Posted by TommyIsland on July 15, 2005, at 0:55:27

I've been suffering from debilitating thoughts since the age of 15 1/2. I'm now 29 years old and I've had my rollercoaster rides up and down through the years and all that ever seemed to work was to just try and suppress the thoughts. I've been taking Effexor 150MG for over 5 years now and it did wonders at first but seemed to lose it's touch over the last 2 years or so. The bottom line is that I've been suppressing these intrusive thoughts for so long and now their running through my mind constantly. I find myself ruminating all day on the same old "What If" situations that pertain to me analyzing my personality and self image over and over again. My pychiatrist just prescribed Geodon 20MG for 2 weeks and then to ramp up to 40MG after that. Has anybody had any kind of success whatsoever with Geodon for Obsessive Thoughts? Any kind of feedback will definitely be of great help to me. Does anybody think a switch to Cymbalta or an increase of Effexor XR would possibly help out at all with alleviating this problem and my depression? I am so debilitated that I don't even want to get out of bed and I have no energy or drive to do much of anything except watch TV and eat. My avoidant behavior has become terrible in the last few months. I'm hoping Geodon is my answer to this mystery. Otherwise I might end of trying ECT of which I've heard some great feedback about. Well thanks everyone.

What do you think of Nardil for what you've got?

Can you ask for zyprexa instead of geodon? i have heared and read up on this board that zyprexa is much more better and less side affects that geodon?

just a thought, or maybe up the dose of effexor first ?

Have you tried plain old Zoloft? It's FDA approved for obsessive-compulsive disorder. Also, in my case, some of what the doctors thought were "obsessive" thoughts were actually "paranoid" thoughts, which cleared up on Abilify. (I used to get convinced that I had AIDS or cancer, to the point of having a nervous breakdown about it - these are the thoughts that responded to Abilify).
Good Luck

I've heard bad things about geodon from two people. That it causes visual disturbances. Anyone else hear about this? Fondly, Phillipa

I've taken the 20MG dosage just once and the somnelence has been terrible. I'm dreading to take it again tonight when I go to bed. I took it last night and slept like a rock and didn't even open my eyes up until 2:30 P.M. I've felt groggy and zonked ever since waking. My appetite has also seemed to dissapear after simply taking it once. Does anybody know if these are normal effects at first and do they go away after a few days? I'm very nervous that this will continue and maybe even get worse.

Sincerely,

Tommy!!!!!!!!!

I find less side-effects on geodon than zyprexa. Less sedation, don't want to eat all the time.

I will admit that zyprexa is more theraputic, in that it helps racing thoughts a little better.

These are normal. The tiredness should get easyer. If not you can take a stimulant like wellbutrin sr.
