I feel so hostile

Posted by Slinky on July 16, 2005, at 5:40:36

I've been taking 800mg tegretol(400 twice a day)for 2 weeks.
I quit paxil about three months ago it was bearable but the withdrawals came back strong when my tegretol dose was increased to 800mg--not only physically but mood- this after 3 months .
I started lexapro a week ago because I was climbing the walls and hated everyone and everything-10mg and it is helping a lot .
I still feel angry and hostile..little things become obsessive in a negative way.
Is there a chance that the tegretol is'nt working. When I start the tegretol I feel ok probably because it reminds me of being a little drunk.
Does it get worse before better ..how long does it start helping..I'm not sure if it helps or not.
I'm not looking for the magic pill..but surely it would ease the agressive nasty part of my illness.
Sorry I can be a bit inarticulate.
I'm very confused
Thanks

ps..lithium depakote and especially lamactal made me unaturally angry also.

The NHS cheapo generic tegretol is almost like powder.
As soon as i put in in my mouth I quickly have to swallow it with water or it dissolves straight away..it gets dissolved in the back of my throat and makes me cough.

I could whine for england

Tegretol Retard / Trileptal

Hey Slinky

Theres not much advice I could offer you about if the 800mg Tegretol is working or not (as I really dont have a clue)...but there is a few things I may be able to suggest which may help :-)

I would have thought, (remembering back when I was on cheapo Tegretol) that after 2 weeks, things if anything should start to get better and not worse.. Maybe you just need alittle more time and then things will improve? If your sick of the waiting though or things don't get better then you could do this...

I never liked taking that cheap generic Tegretol (alphapharma?) sh*t...I went to my GP came up with some excuse and got him to change it to brand name Tegretol Retard - "Retard" being our version of the slow release version. Think I said I wanted to reduce the side effects or something and would I be able to take a slow release (directly knowing myself that was a discreet way of getting the brand ;-)

To be honest though, I really didn't notice that much of a difference completely...the packaging alot nicer and the tablet is a different colour lol Seriously if anything I found it to be maybe slightly more potent - If you want to stay with the Tegretol and if I did, I would have remained on the brand myself. So maybe you could try going to your GP and getting the "real" Tegretol..and just for good measure get Retard, slow release.

The other possiblity is something you could do when you next see your psychiatrist...and that is change to Trileptal (oxcarbazepine) Of course if he'll let you, but I think it should be ok. With that your have no worries of getting cheap generic NHS sh*t as all they have is brand of that.

I don't want to sound like a salesman for Trileptal...but I honestly think you'd do much better on it...I had less aggression, it helped more with depression, more with anxiety I had less stress on it etc.. Vs what I had from Tegretol. It really did make a great postive difference.

Well thats 2 options i can think of, if things don't get better with the Tegretol, hope that helps...

Kind regards

Nick

Hi Nick

I'm going to mention again about tripetal.
He's hard to talk to and I get all timid .
Which is frustrating cause I get be real assertive in a hyper mood...
