Whos tried Celexa and Wellbutin?

Posted by Meri-Tuuli on July 13, 2005, at 16:58:31

I'm on 20mg celexa (cipramil) and I am constantly sleepy + no motivaition/energy (as some of my previous posts indicate!)

However, I think I might approach my doc with supplementing with wellbutrin - mainly due to its energy/motivational potential.

Anyone like to share their experiences/knowledge? Good/bad?

Ed_uk whats the general feeling about wellbutrin + GPs? It seems that there is alot of stuff here in the UK about Zyban for quitting smoking but not much on wellbutrin and depression.

My GP (in US) prescribed Wellbutrin as an adjunct to Celexa (40 mg) when I was on it. While this combination was not the right one for me, as I don't really respond much to any SSRI, it was better than an SSRI on its own. And I don't recall any troubling side effects.

GG,
I'm going to give the combo a go - that is, if I can persuade my GP to presribe it to me! I reckon he will. Anyway I've only heard good things about wellbutrin, and I don't really want to give up celexa, but I can't cope with the no energy anymore, and the sleepiness. Besides which, I was on venlafaxine, and prozac before that, and they were horrific. I think I must be sensitive to meds.

Hi!

>Ed_uk whats the general feeling about wellbutrin + GPs?

Bupropion is not approved for depression in the UK, your GP is unlikely to be aware that it's an antidepressant. The Wellbutrin brand is not available in the UK. Zyban is available, it's the same drug as Wellbutrin but it's only used for smoking cessation. I doubt that your GP would prescribe it, Zyban's got a bad press in the UK. Zyban might help you.........if you can get a prescription!

PANTS!! I was getting rather hopeful that it would work for me. I'm just on cipramil and its quite good at controling aniexty and panic, although maybe not my depression, and it just gives me no drive/motivation/energy whatsoever.

I was hoping that because it worked on the dopamine/norad. neurotransmitters it would work for the no energy thing.

Do you know if I can combine reboxetine with cipramil? (thinking that reboxetine works on the norad. pathways) Or would it be better if I just switched to reboxetine (that is, if the doc will prescibe it - I tried before and he said it was too new! I'm going to a diff one now).

Its all pants. I'm so frustrated by it all at the moment.

I guess I should just see the GP and tell him all about it. They are so pants - I tried telling them that I was tired all the time, did they link it to the cipramil - no! They did a load of blood tests, all came back normal (how surprising), and now what.

Well, better had make that appointment!

Thanks for the info though. I suspected that wellbutrin wasn't avail in the uk, coz when I googled it with nhs on uk sites, nothing came up and anything that did, was related to zyban.

Any ideas on alternative meds? I would love to try the NARIs. And ritalin for that matter - I think I might be ADD, which would explain alot of things.

I'm begining to suspect that i'm gonna always be like this, and that I just won't ever be normal. It sucks. Why is life harder for us, when others can 'bounce back'. I just feel like its such a struggle to merely exist.

Hi,

>Do you know if I can combine reboxetine with cipramil?

Yes, you can. I've heard too many bad things about reboxetine though, I'd recommend lofepramine (Gamanil) over reboxetine. I took lofepramine 210mg + citalopram 60mg for a couple of years.

>I would love to try the NARIs.

Lofepramine is a tricyclic antidepressant. It's basically an NARI though.

>no drive/motivation/energy whatsoever.....

I think you should consider reducing your citalopram dose.

hey well made it to the docs - he was quite nice, actually listened to me, and he has prescribed the reboxetine for me. He's started me off on a low dose. 1mg twice daily. I think we'll then build it up, but I was shaking with nerves and I couldn't believe that he was listening to me. Well, we'll see how it goes. I'll start a new thread and let everybody know! Plus it would be good to have some posts for the archives.

I have been taking 40 mg of celexa, and 300 mg of wellbutrin for 5 years. I was on several other meds but am down to two now. My pdoc originally added wellbutrin to counteract the sexual side effects of celexa. I feel ok now.
