Too much lamictal?

Posted by lushkins on May 19, 2005, at 10:17:54

Hi,

The last few weeks for me have not been too good. I have had really bad anger and depression is starting to pull on me. I am on lamictal and a month ago I increased from 250mg to 300mg. I felt sort of good at 250mg nothing special but an inprovement none the less, and instead of the good feelings disapearing like after the other increases at this dose I felt good for about a month.

But I wanted to feel even better so I increased to 300mg, and since about day 3 I have been anxious, angry (which I have always been ((remeron)) and my thoughts have been going around my head like really fast, I feel ever so slightly paranoid like a feeling of being out of place in general life, and its getting worse. I can't walk down the street without thinking I am being judged and that everyone is watching me. Normally I am fine and quite confident with most social interaction even when in the dumps. So the only thing I can put this down to is the increase in lamictal.

Has anyone expereineced this, especially the anxiety part when increasing the lamictal too far? Did it eventually go away? Its been a month and so far its got worse. I think I am going to go back down to at least 275mg, in the hope that my mind will calm down a bit. It could of course be the dreaded poop out which is supposed to be common with lamictal, but I was not paranoid and as anxious before this increase, so I don't really know.

Any thoughts?

Thanks lushkins

What other meds are you taking? I take 300mg of lamictal and its actually not working good enough. I am augmenting it with trileptal. I was taking 200mg of lamictal and i was feeling major rage, but blamed it on the klonopin that i had just started. But, I think it just takes a while to adjust. Maybe you should ask your pdoc about adding another mood stabelizer to help with your nervous feelings.

i'm back down to 100mg lamictal but initially i had been up to 325or 350mg.

when i hit 325mg i started getting very anxious and having panic attacks. I couldn't ride the underground because i thought the ceilings were coming down. Elevators and planes caused huge anxiety attacks. Needless to say i was living on xanax. As soon as we dropped the level it all went away. I gotta say you sound very similar.

I think for the moment I will not take another mood stabalizer. I have my Uni exams in the next month, so I don't want to mess with things more than they are already. But after the exams I think its a possibility. It just seems that anything I go on activates me. This is not as bad as SRRIs where I don't really know what was going on.

So it seems I am not alone with the anger on lamictal, and the anxiety.

I am taking remeron which I am hoping to decrease soon as I know it makes me more angry than I usually am. Inside im burning with anger, When I decreased that about 6 months ago the anger subsided but my mood went down so I had to go back on it remeron.

From today I am going to take 250mg oflamictal, hopefully it makes a difference. The thing is after each increase I would initally feel really good, then after 3-4 days I get angry for a week, but the anger would then subside to a certain extent. I would then get sort of depressed and anxious and my mind would start racing. With all the other doses doses I would then gradualy feel better and feel quite well, apart from lingering anger which I think is because of the remeron. But at 300mg the anger, anxiety depression has persissted, I was hoping these feelings would turn around in a similar way to the doses before but it hasn't happened as of yet after well over a month. It would usually take a maximum of 3 weeks to start feeling quite good on a particular dose.

Any way thanks for the replies

Lushkins.

I don't know if its related to the lamictal or not, but the last dew days I have been getting muscle spasms in my eyebrow that are constant and can last for a considrable time. Its not troublesome at all, and I am not worried about it. I suppose it could be stress.

Now that you take 100mg, do you take it as a single dose at bedtime or in the morning?
