Are some AD's more likely to Poop than others??

For instance, I hear of the TCA's pooping less than the SSRI's, but that may be because they are used less these days.

Is this perhaps a result of the TCA's having fewer sleep disrupting effects ??

My personal experience is limited but Imipramine worked for me beautifully for two years. Then I was switched to Prozac when it came out. Prozac worked for me (albeit with dreadful insomnia, muscle tension and anxiety) for eight years. After it pooped out I switched to Effexor which pooped out after about 4 years. Since then it's been a roller coaster ride trying to find something that works but has bearable side effects. I wonder whether no matter what you take, the poop out period gets shorter with each new drug you try? Like your body gets better at identifying the foreign substance and blocking it?

I've read a lot of posts here from people who say their MAOIs pooped out after as little as 8 or 9 months. Is that common?

Marsha, I think you're right about your body getting used to them. At first they created panic. Now I feel no change, or side effects at all. Fondly, Phillipa

The only meds that have ever worked for me are also the ones that pooped out on me.

Were there any stressors that might have precipitated your relapses on these drugs?

Of course if they never worked to begin with, then there's nothing to poop-out. :-)

Hi Kara,
Well, yes, what you say is true, but what I meant was that the very few medicines that have really helped me were the ones that pooped out. The meds that were only moderately or marginally helpful stayed that way for years.
