I don't drink very often, but if I want to have a glass of wine is that ok? I've drank while taking the other meds I'm on and haven't had any problems, but since I'm new to the Geodon, I just want to make sure its ok.

I drink an occasional one but it's probably best while you're starting a new med to try and just minimize the effects that drinking may have in combination with it.
I 'm sure all of the literature says not to drink with any of these meds. That's just standard procedure since some people will have more than a few and then you can't tell what's doing what to you.
Since you are having alot of questions abut starting Geodon I would play it real safe by laying off the alcohol, except for a glass of wine, perhaps, which is your normal routine anyway and you'll be fine.
Did you take your first dose yet? It took me a few days before I got over the initial feeling of being very sleepy. I took it right before I went to bed. The other thing is you have to take it with food too, very imprtant, it has to do with absorption of the med.

Hi - thanks for all of your responses. I'm taking 20mg once a day right now and I'm taking it when I go to bed. The past 2 mornings when I've woken up I've been very groggy. Today isn't as bad as yesterday was. I forgot about taking it with food; I'll have to do that tonight. One thing I've noticed is that my mouth feels like my saliva glands (tastebuds?) are burning. I'm producing saliva, but my mouth feels hot and I'm constantly drinking something to cool it off. Did you have this feeling? What doses of celexa and wellbutrin are you taking? Are you taking the geodon for OCD?

Be careful drinking with Geodon. Even though you're at a low dose, it could make you feel really disinhibited when combined with alcohol. I take a higher dosage and get this effect. I also get somewhat shaky.

I drink a glass or more of wine with dinner every night. With me, it doesn't appear to matter.

Are you guys talking about taking the pill with a sip of alcohol and keep drinking at the same time, or taking geodon in the morning anf then drink in the afternoon? these are 2 different things, Id never taking the medicine and alcohol at the same minute, (like both in my stomach at the same time), but Im wondering if I can ocasionaly have a glass of wine while under treatment with Geodon (sorry english is my second language, hope it made sense)

Hi Musica,
Short answer: probably fine, depending on your dose of geodon.
I take Geodon at a very small dose (10mg twice a day) as an antidepressant, and drink the same day without any problem, or any interruption of the medication's positive effects. If you also take a small dose, I'd say it's probably no problem. However, it might (?) possible there could be health issues at higher doses. I don't know this, I'm just saying I don't know. Geodon and other antipsychotics have effects on your heart, and my worry would be that alcohol could complicate that effect. However, this worry could be completely unfounded. I do not have a good understanding of alcohol's effect on the cardiovascular system (other than that it's a peripheral vasodilator).
Do you have any issues with your heart? If not, I probably would say go ahead and have a drink with your Geodon. Otherwise, I am not sure.

I really appreciate you taking the time to answer... I did have 1 glass of wine and i felt a little bit of tremors, like my hands were lightly shaking, but I had a good evening with friends and it was ok, the only other thing is that 1 hour after the glass of wine, I had to take my second dose of geodon and go to sleep, which gave me a lot of nightmares and bad quality sleep... I will have to think twice before drinking next time, if I need to sleep well, or wake up early the next day. Thanks again!!

i tried that in 2004 when i was in withdrawal og geodon, after 1 pint, i felt sedation increasing the med geodon, wasnt out of my system yet

Glad I could help a little--hope you find a way to make it work. Could you omit (or reduce) your dose of geodon in the evening, maybe?
