Bipolar or breif psychotic epsidoe?

Posted by alienatari on April 25, 2005, at 23:27:50

Hey everyone. When I had that "episode" whatever it was I was doing a lot of drugs (I dont use rec drugs anymore) anyway I was taking magic mushrooms, ecstacy, lots of xanax, pot, amyl, drinking a lot i dont know what else i took. But it was mainly the Xanax that I was taking and I was taking HEAPS of it. Can xanax cause a reaction like that? Im so confused. Just asking because thats what the new doc things caused my reaction and that I dont actually have bipolar so Im confused as to if I should take Depakote anymore or not.

I have had a similar thing happen to me recently too. But, i didnt do drugs (drank alot though) and went into some type of hypomania episode or something. My pdoc says i dont have bp either, but my T thinks I do. Anyway, I just wanted to say that Depokote (in my opionion) is horrible. I took it and was a zombie- I dont even remember the things I did. Lamictal seems to be alot better, I am clear minded. Maybe you should ask your doc about that instead of the depokote..I would def. get off that!!!!!!!
Good Luck

Thanks. I have been on Depakote for years and have had zero side effects. Seriously its probably one of the best tollerated drugs for me. I dont know if I was manic or not, when this all happened I was halucinating and other stuff. Hearing voices and seeing people trying to attack me that were not there. I became very paranoid. I got so scared in a toilet once because I thought I could see people coming to get me that i broke down the door off its hinges. Apparently I did this a few times but I cant remember the others. I really should have been put back in a psych ward (just got out a few weeks before). It was pretty bad and this went on for months. I dont know. I have to get the papers from my old psychatrists to show my new one so he can examine what they have said I guess. Lamictal isnt an option for me, I cant afford it but Im not really that depressed at the moment and I hear that its not that good for mania. Whatever happened I really hope it doesnt happen again. I did so many weird things. I thought God was talking to me, I converted to another religion changed my name legally, went to live on the streets. I dont think xanax can cause this but yea who knows hey? But thinking about it, doctors have seen me hypomanic a lot especially when I have that kind of "scattered" way of speaking (Depkaote has stopped this totally) its just the one time that I have been totally manic. I guess I will forever be labelled with Bipolar I disorder.
Thanks and take care.

Sounds like the illegal drugs to me. But what do I know I've never used any of them. But isn't that an awful lot? Fondly, Phillipa

It's really tough to figure out, I know. I've had two manic episodes, and at the time, I was smoking a LOT of marijuana while on anafranil and klonopin. Then I stopped taking it cold turkey. What the hell was I thinking? Twice! Anyway, I haven't been on any meds for a long time, and what i've held onto is the hope that the withdrawal effects of the meds caused the manic episode. I've also realized that I can't really tell the difference between the withdrawal effects and the actual mania because they've occured in conjunction both times. I've still got ocd and anxiety real bad but I've been managing for the most part.

hope this helps.

Thats not good that you went manic. So your coping ok now? Are you doing CBT or exposure therapy and other things to help with your OCD?
Ive just started Anafranil, I really hope it works for me. Take care.
