New Dx BP mixed states

Posted by thinkfast on March 23, 2005, at 19:29:14

Can someone give me some info on this? Doc put me on Trileptal 300mg X 2 a day and 0.5mg of Ativan 3x a day. I was on 150 of luvox and he cut that down to 50mg because he said it may be making me worse, which I've heard about the SSRI thing with BP's. What all is involved in BP mixed states? Am I BP with a sub-type of mixed states or what? I'm also OCD, SP, Panic, etc.

what does it take to get a Dx of mixed states. i've been saying for the last 6 months that that's what i think mine are but i just don't get any feedback...what would you describe as 'mixed'? is that the same as rapid cycling or actually AT the same time?
and ya i'm with spriggy, (sorry for my ignorance but i don't know what SP is?)

i think an earlier thread mentioned 'depression on speed'. i can have extreme racing thoughts and tons of words/ideas in my head but TONS of anger and negative thoughts/death etc...

Hello,
I've been looking for info on various bipolar forms ready for my next pdoc visit.

You might want to visit this site :
http://www.psycheducation.org/bipolar/02_diagnosis.html#Anchor-Anxious-4328

Here is an excerpt quote:

"Mixed States
The combined presence of full manic and full depressive symptoms — at the same time — is Bipolar Mixed State. At the same time? How can that be? Most people have always thought of the two "poles" of "bipolar" to mean something like the North and South Poles. Bipolar experts have recognized that this illness is much more complicated . Dr. Susan McElroy of the University of Cincinnati says that two "poles" of "bipolar" disorder are like axes of a graph, and that any point on that graph is possible in the "mixed states" of bipolar disorder.

Imagine someone with manic symptoms of rapid thoughts and speech, who instead of feeling euphoric feels terrible: depressed; with negative thoughts, especially about her/himself; full of negative energy, and possibly even delusional (e.g persecutory or paranoid delusions, or delusions of terrible guilt and responsibility). "

Hope that helps someone.
Regards,
Jas

that's great JAS. it's me alright. they had trouble stating BP for a while because i wasn't "cheating on my husband or flying off to Vegas on a whim" (exact quote from one psychologist i saw). i think i'll print this off and show pdoc next visit. though he did just up my zyprexa to 10mg and things seem to be ok for now.
-thanks for the info
