Medication weanie... self confessed

Posted by Spriggy on March 22, 2005, at 13:13:48

I STILL haven't taken the Lamictal. Somebody please talk me into it. Anyone want to bribe me with... umm.... let's say money or chocolate?

No.. not chocolate becuase of the new diabetes thing but money. Yeah money.

If somebody will pay Spriggy $1, she will actually swallow the stinkin' tiny white pill.

Here's the problem;

Dr. Prescribed it Wednesday- I had a speaking engagement Thursday-Saturday. I was concerned to take it not knowing how it would make me feel since I had responsibilities.

then I come home with everyone at my house sick- so then I am concerned to take it not knowing how it will make me feel since I am the caretaker of the "dead" flu folks around here.

Now, I have the flu and am concerned about taking it because I don't know how it will make me feel.

Does anyone see a pattern here?

when I am done with the flu, I will likely have a hang nail or a sneeze that will make me concerned to take it.

Lord help me. LOL

*note to other drug weanie's out there- DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT, read threads about the medication you are concerned about taking from this board.*

Give yourself permission to start taking it after you get over the flu. What, maybe a week at most? That seems like a valid reason to wait.

Um... so I'm assuming that whole "payment bribery plan" is out of the question?

I agree. If you don't wait until you feel well you won't be able to accurately assess the med. Think I'll have some chocolate! Spriggy, what about the sugarless candy? Fondly, Phillipa

Well, sugarless candy usually means this for me:

either

Aspartame= horrible headaches

or

Splenda= diarrhea and gas (too much information?)

LOL

Isn't sugarless candy an oxymoron? Oh my! Have you ever eaten sugar-free ice cream? Ugh! Stuff made with Aspartame and the like tastes soapy to me. Go figure... When I want chocolate, give me the real stuff (but not too much, or I'll hurt myself!)

You can do it! And if you have side effects, we are hear to listen. I started on Lamictal a few months ago, so I can be your Lamictal buddy! :)

> How has your experience been so far with Lamictal?

It has been okay. I take it to augment my antidepressants (lexapro and desipramine) b/c I haven't been able to get over my most recent depressive episode (just regular depression, not BP). I would say that I haven't really noticed any s/e's. No weight gain or changes in sleep. My pdoc says that generally it is low in s/e's. Unfortunately, I haven't noticed any dramatic benefits either, but I think that things may slowly be getting better. It is also a little hard to tell b/c some difficult things have happened in my life in the past few weeks. I wonder if I would be feeling better if this wasn't the case, you know?

200 mg. I have been on this dose for about 3 weeks so far. It takes a while to work your way up there.

Best of luck. Keep us posted!
