Hi. I'm sorry, I can't tell from your post if you are taking the regular form of Ritalin or the Slow Release form.

Hi Maxime

"10mgIR" : 10mg=10 milligrammes
: IR=Instant Release

Any more misunderstandings, please let me know.

Thanks

No, i am on the same page as you now. 70 mg is not too much. I've read that an adult dosage should not go higher than 60 mg. But I am a firm believer in exceptions.

If 70 mg is helping you and you are not crashing or having trouble sleeping then go for it.

hey paulbwell-- i don't think 70mg of ritalin is too high, although 7-70 is sure a large range! i don't know what the upper limit is, but i wouldn't worry about your dose. i take concerta 3 x 27mg a day in the morning, then 20mg of adderall in the afternoon and evening. i'm not sure how much that adds up to in ritalin mgs, but, although some doctors give me dirty looks for being on stimulants at all, no one has said that the dose is too much. and maybe you can handle more being large and male. i'm around 100lbs... in children, dosing is usually by weight in kgs. how long have you been on ritalin, by the way?

Is it too much for you? Presumable he increased the does for a reason. Do you feel better or worse on the new dose. My normal
daily does is more than that and one thing I have discovered
is that, whilst this is optimal in symptom reduction I have to be
very careful to ensure that I get enough sleep.

If I am sleep deprived / sad the medication is less effective
and I've learnt that I am better off taking less, not more.

Hey Care,

I dont take 7mgs to 70mgs, I have been raised from 6 tabs 60mgs, to 7 tabs 70mgs, It was 20mgs T.I.D but there was 1 more added, notce, because It helps me sleep if Its still active!

So you take 3x 27mg Concerta morning? (each 1 being equivalant to 10mgs IR methylphenidate T.I.D) and 20mgs IR Adderall B.I.D?=
90mgs Methylphenidate day
40mgs Amphetamine Salts day
That sounds like a lot, but I understand you also take many other meds, I think it must be like, 11 or 12 from memory?. You must feel like Elvis at times? LOL

-Is 1 of them Percoset (Oxtcodone)?
-Do you find the Stimulants potentiate the opiates?

I have been on Methylphenidate 1 year.

Thanks

hey there-- sorry for the misunderstanding about 7 and 70. i get it now, just took me awhile :). so you take 7 tabs of ritalin? is it necessary to take so many or does ritalin come in higher doses? i think i would get tired of taking so many pills. but you're right-- i'm on a huge cocktail. in the last month or two, i've been lucky to cut the number in half or so, but i still take 8 or 9 a day. compared to before, though, i feel surprisingly free, especially not having to take the 3-4 times a day pills.

you have a good memory-- percocet/oxycodone was one of my meds for months. i just tapered off of it. in my experience, the stimulants and the percocet didn't interact with each other. i still got the full pain relief, but maybe without the sedation i would have without adderall. that might have just been my working up a tolerance to the sedation, too. i feel like some other meds, like lithium or antipsychotics directly antagonize dopamine release, making the stimulants weaker, but i didn't feel like either the concerta/adderall or percocet was weaker or stronger.

i've never tried ritalin IR, just the long-acting concerta. have you tried any others that you can compare the ritalin to? a couple of months ago, i reached a pretty high toleranace for adderall, and that's mostly why i mix in concerta. i also like that it's, for me, even smoother and longer-acting the adderall xr. i'm allowed to take two doses of adderall IR in the afternoon and evening, and i've wanted to try ritalin or dexedrine instead to try something new and also because i often have trouble sleeping. i don't think it's because of the stimulants, though. my pdoc prefers adderall over ritalin, though, and if it's true about the crashes when ritalin doses wear off, i guess i'd be better off on adderall. i've also been curious about focalin, which is supposed to be ritalin but twice as potent, but my dr hadn't heard of it and we couldn't find a pharmacy that carried it. do you know anything about it?

nice talking to you! hope your ritalin keeps working!

Hi Care, thanks for your kind post :)

Where i am from (down under) Rit only comes in 10mg tabsIR and 20mgSR-which i didn't find usefull, as so many dont, so its 2 Rit T.I.D and 1 night for me.
I could try dex, thats supposed to last longer?, but we dont have Adderall here. Concerta is available but very! expensive and not covered. Focalin is not available here either, and knowing our down under trends won't be for some years after the US.

I ask about the Stims boosting the Oxy because I have read this to be so, and mattmpls-a regular PB finds Hydro-Dex to be so.

You take Lithium? *RUN* out today and buy MAGNESIUM (ASPARTATE-form only) studies including one fron a 1990 group of French Psychiatrists found it to be as effective as Lithium for Manic/Mania Bipolar.--take 500mg 1000mg.

Glad to hear you are doing well, keep it up, good to hear, and let me know k?

thanks paulbwell! were you on lithium, too? i'll look into the magnesium. my doctors tend to be skittish and mainstream, though, so i don't know how they'll take it if i mention replacing the lithium.

sorry to hear there's no adderall in australia. concerta is expensive here, too, i suspect more so because they make pills of ridiculous dosages like 18, 27, and 36mg. for that reason, i have to take three pills whereas if they made a more conventional dosage, maybe i could take less.

sorry i don't know more about the oxycodone and stimulant interaction. the only thing close that comes to mind is cocaine, of course another stimulant, but one that has anesthesizing properties. i would guess that cocaine + oxycodone would numb you up pretty good. amphetamines and ritalin don't have that property, so i can't think of a mechanism by which they would enhance the effect of oxycodone. i have no idea, though. maybe it's another of those "everyone is different" things...

Hi Care,

No I wasn't on Lithiun but I thought I was BP for many years and so did several PCP, went throught hell with Panic symptoms while in my late teens. I did take a MS called Tegretol for (prophylaxis of MD illness) and it made life look grey-yuk.

I was not suggesting you stop ANY med inc: Lithium, just that Magnesium (ASPARTATE-only 10x better absorbed than Oxide) is a muscle relaxant, and shares many nurochemical properties as Lithium. I find it greatly enhances the effectiveness of Benzos I take, which It has been reported to do, It surly couldn't hurt to supplement with?

Take Care. Care, haha

PS> I'm not in Australia

alohashirt-- how do you like dexedrine compared to concerta? i've never had dexedrine, only adderall and adderall xr. when i take concerta (i alternate between concerta and adderall xr), i take 3 x 27mg = 81mg + one or two doses of 10mg of adderall in the afternoon. how long do they last for you? does strattera help? i took up to 80mg of it along with provigil, and i didn't feel the straterra working at all. thanks!
