any nardil success stories?

Posted by emmjay on February 28, 2005, at 23:04:31

Hi, all. My pdoc recommended nardil for me,but I am doing research on it first and would like some first hand opinions. Has anyone here had success on the new nardil?

Been on Nardil for 20 years. No side effects and has been very effective for extreme agoraphobia.
As far as restricted diet, I do not eat cheese, (except for cottage cheese and cream cheese.) No alcohol except white wine. I watch over the counter meds such as antihistimines etc. Other than that, I pretty much eat everything else. Never had a hypertensive crisis (that I was aware of.)
It has been an excellant medication and almost miracle drug for me.
I personally believe that many people with this type of disorder are missing a much needed drug for them.

I've been on it for over a year now. It's been the only AD that has helped my atypical depression. I eat mozzarella and provolone cheese, and occasionally even goat cheese in small amounts without any trouble. I also drink domestic bottled beer, and red and white wines. But your results may vary. When I first started, I strictly followed the diet, and even cut out caffeine.

Only negatives for me are weight gain (50+ pounds due to binge eating, something I never did before Nardil) and some fluid retention. I occasionally had urinary retention and anorgasmia, but those fade after a couple of months.

Worth looking into. I also printed out a card with my dietary restrictions on it to hand to waiters when I eat out and bought a medic alert bracelet.

Yes, absolutely. i've been on it for about a year and a half now (alternative between 45mg & 60mg, but mostly 60mg), and it has also literally been a miracle drug for me. It has relieved my extreme Major Depression and bad SP/SAD to incredible degrees. i only avoid cheeses (most), tap beer, sour kraut (sp.?), and aged or cured meats. i readly eat mozzarrella, provalone, and some ricotta, and often drink red wine and bottled beer with no untoward effects. i've only had one hypertensive reaction on Nardil and it was because i was stupid and forgetful enough to have 50mg ephedrine one time on it (that was a bad experience, needless to say).
If you have any kind of moderate-or-worse social anxiety problems or fairly treatment resistant depression, you would do very well to give Nardil a try. If it works for you and you can tolerate the side effects that are pretty troublesome for some people, you will love it.
The only side effects i personally have are constipation, lessened libido and orgasmic quality/ability-- which i admittedly detest, but is still very worthwhile-- and possibly some partial cognitive difficulties, though it's hard to tell for sure if it's from Nardil or just... something else.
Nardil saved me from deep despair and potential death.

Great to hear. I started taking it today for my extreme social phobia. I just wonder, how bad the sexual side effects really are?! Gets better with time?!

Thanks a lot,
Ted.

Nardil saved my life. I've been happy for two years now. If it works it makes people happier than they've ever been. At least that's my experience and what I hear on various sites like these.
I'd tried ECT plus almost every other med. out there. Most made me more anxious and agitated. It took three months for full remission but yes, please give it a try if other things haven't worked.

Great to hear and glad for you! It's been a week since I started taking 60mg. Total of 20 days on it. I think it's then early to judge its effectiveness.

Since I started the 60 I started getting side effects. Constipation, amd most frustrating the anorgasmia. I know many depressed people can be doing already bad at that department at baseline but me I don't suffer from major depression, maybe some very mild form. My main problem is social phobia, so I was pretty active sexually. I am start feeling bad about this now, really frustrating and a since of impotence has kicked in.

Have you experienced improvement on this side effect after some time? Have you found something that can help?

Was it not necessary to increase the dose with time?

Thanks,
Ted.

Hi, thankgodfornardil, I had a few questions for you. Do you suffer from depression, what dosage are you on, and what other kinds of meds did you try?
