wellbutrin XL dosing

Posted by olysi79 on February 28, 2005, at 15:03:41

Hello,
I have a question...

IS the 150MGS of Wellbutrin XL the equivelant of 300 mgs of Wellbutrin SR or is it the same, meaning 150 wellbutrin XL = 150 Wellbutrin SR .

Any input would be great. Also I've been feelign really nervous taking wellbutrin, which is common. Is this transient or will I feel anxious for the long haul? Please help, thanks

You are anxious about starting it OR you have already begun it and are feeling anxious? I'm not sure what you meant.

I have had a history of a few panic attacks/anxiety and Wellbutrin made me much more anxious.

If you are taking it for depression, you will likely see benefits. If you have more anxiety issues, according to the pdoc I just saw, Wellbutrin is not for anxiety; tends to increase anxiety.

So... if you have already begun taking it and feel anxious, that is a common side effect.

I personally had a bad reaction but I am SOOO med sensitive that it would be hard to use my meter to gage any medicine.

Hi:
Wellbutrin XL 150 mg. is equivalent to the Wellbutrin sr *150 mg.,* not WB sr 300 mg.

In regard to the efficacy between WB XL and WB sr is the former is extended release, lasting longer than WB sr. and said to be 'NO' insomnia problem due to 'long-lasting effect' that does not effect sleep pattern.

I've been taking a generic form of WB sr, ... 'Bupropion ER' (Extended release version of Bupropion). However, when asked a mail-order clerk, he said Bupropion ER is exactly same as Bupropion SR, but for me this, 'ER' is longer efficacy than 'SR.,' and I love this, 'Bupropion ER.'

Furthermore, Wellbutrin has a tendency to produce 'Anxiety,' due to 'stimulant' efficacy, then you need to take some 'calming med.' In my case, Trazodone is a BIG help and this combo. "WB and Traz." offerring me 'terrific' relief in terms of 'depression,' 'Anxiety,' and all other related problems broung on by Bp depression. However, in my recollection, ... Traz. is NOT for you, then you could try WB XL 150 mg., or WB sr + Anxiety/Insomnia remedy.
H.G.

Hey Spriggy, I began taking Wellbutrin abotu a week and a half ago. Around day 8 or 9, I began to have anxiety problems again. By day 10 I was so nervous that I couldn't function. I called my PDOC and low and behold they weren't surprised. They said that once it builds up in the system that people really begin to experience the anxiety. At any rate, I haven't taken it in 2 days, but still feel nervous, so it could just be my anxiety disorder talking , then again it taken time for it to clear out of the system. I'd taken it in the past and was able to tolerate it well, oh well, chemistry changes over time.

no more wellbutrin for me!

It takes 6-8 days to clear your system.

It took me a good 10 days to "calm" down from that stuff.

I felt like I was on bad speed or had drank 300 cans of Jolt.

I suppose if one "likes" that feeling, it would be fun.. but not me. Yikes.

I hope you start to feel better soon.

Maybe you could try a benzo for the anxiety until you feel better?? it helped me.

Good luck.

Hey Spriggy,
you described it perfectly! I keep on breaking into moderate panic attacks and feel nervous. I'm starting to wonder if it's also my monthly bout of depression coming on (I get a nasty one at least once a month and perhaps the change in chemistry is getting it to act up I'm starting to become irrational too because I'm so stressed out by the situation.
I'm so mad because I used to do well on the stuff, and I was only taking 150 to begin with. I have some Klonopin that I will use in the meantime to try and relax. Trazodone does wonders for helping me sleep and also, Benedryl has helped me calm down. If my thought process heads south, I'll take some Zyprexa to kill the irrational thinking.
