I've been on Zoloft for about 14 months (200mg). It's doing wonders...however...I've gained about 40 pounds and it keeps going up. At first I was a little self-concious but now I'm thinking of health. I'm near 40 and am way way over weight. I should really be about 60 pounds lighter than what I am!
SO: I'm wondering....does it make sense to (slowly) get off the zoloft and see about moving to Wellbutrin or something else that doesn't have as bad a weight gain?
Again...my physical health is starting to worry me...walking up stairs is actually getting me out of breath.
Thanks for any insights.

I took zoloft for several years and didn't gain a pound....and am taking it again. Your post is starting to worry me now. Maybe another SSRI would work for you, or is it something else that's making you gain weight? Are you eating healthfully? Are you getting enough excercise? I also took Welbutrin and it didn't do a thing for my depression, but made me intollerable and mean. Everyone is different, so ask your doctor what is best for you. -L

I tried a very low dose of zoloft for a while but stopped due to the potential weight gain issue. My cousin took this and she gained quite a bit of weight.
Wellbutrin may be an option for you but you'll probably need to augment it with another AD such as Lexapro or Cymbalta. Both are weight neutral inmy experience.

Everyone is different when it comes to SSRI's. My daughter gained around ten pounds on Lexapro during two months, and then went on Welbutrin. The doctor told us that Lexapro will add weight at higher dosages. She was at 20mg. I took it also and started to put on some weight......and I quit just as fast when I heard that one. I don't know if there is one that works for everyone, but Wellbutrin doesn't add weight, I know that. It makes me aggressive and irritable, so I can't take it. Almost manic. Remember, some meds work well for some people, and then the opposite for others....it's just our bodies are different. I hope you find one that helps you. -L
