My doc has decided to give me Paxil instead of Effexor that I'm taking now. (I'm also on risperdal) What does this mean? Is it better in any sense?

Paxil is considered less activating and effexor.
Paxil may be better for anxiety, and/or insomnia.
Paxil has a slightly higher ratio of serotonin/norepinephrine reputake.

I've taken both of these drugs, and I did not care for either one. However, Paxil will stay in your system longer and it is easier to discontinue. The withdrawal from Effexor is very difficult.
