hi Kara (btw I will reply to you soon via babblemail) I disagree with this researcher since Prozac does NOT work for ADD. Maybe for some "H", in rats or otherwise, but it is not an effective treatment for for attentional disorders. When Prozac is shown to demostrate the same degree of efficacy as Ritalin, Strattera, or Dexedrine, then I will change my mind. But I have seen no such evidence.

I agree. Just because Prozac lowered hyperactivity doesn't mean that it is necessarily an effective ADD/ADHD treatment. What is going on? Is the extra serotonin transmission inducing a calming effect? If so, benzos should work in an analogous manner because they are also calming and would tend to reduce hyperactivity. However, benzos have no more efficacy for ADD/ADHD than do SSRIs. The reasoning in the study seems flawed, and perhaps biased.

So they found out the a inbalance of DA and 5-HTP causes ADHD symptoms, not just a deficiency in dopamine. So what? Now we know how to treat ADHD when the gov starts breeding DAT knockout humans!?
I think 90% of ADHD is (mostly)caused by deficeny of dopamine/overabundance of DAT.
Its funny how they found the stims still helped the DAT knockout mice.

you can tell the article is biased right from the first paragraph:

"Much concern has been raised over prescribing Ritalin® or other stimulants to control hyperactivity disorders in children. Relatively little is known about the long-term effects of these stimulants or how they alter brain chemistry."

UHHHH... yes we DO!! stimulants have been used for like 70 years in ADHD!!!! its the SSRIS that we don't know about the long term effects in.

This is the end of the thread.
