Hello,

Have you found Buspar to be helpful for anxiety or depression?

It would be highly appreciated if you share your experiences.

Christine

Hi christine.

Yes, I do find buspar to be helpful for depression, less so for anxiety.

I take in conjunction woth nortriptyline, a tricyclic antidepressant, and it helps with sleep and has virtually no side effects at my dose, which I've maintained for the past two years, 30 mg/day. I've gone off it periodically, because I take a lot of other meds too, and sometimes I've felt overwhelmed with side effects, but it has always turned out that I've felt worse when I went off it with no reduction in side effects, while that was not the case with many of the other meds.

It has no withdrawal or tolerance issues.

It did not do a thing for me, but my pdoc told me it works for some people and not for others. I guess all you can do is try it and find out.

Hi there: Buspar had no effect for me at all (GAD). It had few SE's and no withdrawal though, so it's worth trying to see if it works for you, since it's not hard to discontinue.
Also, I had been on Clonazepam for a while prior to trying Buspar. There are some authorities who think that Buspar does not help people who have already taken benzodiazepines, so that may be a reason why it didn't work for me.
Good luck
Jas

I took Buspar briefly along with Prozac. The only thing it did for me was to give me nightmares.
