Hi all,
Seeing my pdoc today, I thought I'd ask for your advice on a med to suggest for my depression, which I think is causing much of my anxiety that I have been dealing with. I have tried every single SSRI so I need to try something in a new class of drugs...Not sure what though. I just know SSRI's do nothing, if not negative things to me.I also take: 600mg Neurontin 3x daily
30mg dexadrine spansules 2x daily
tapering off Xanax XRThanks so much

My pdoc will sometimes make use of nortriptyline when the SSRIs and/or Effexor have failed to get the job done. This is a norepinephrine selective reuptake inhibitor from the tricyclic class. It is relatively innocuous for a tricyclic and is widely used by GPs for things like headaches and chronic pain. Cymbalta might also be worth considering, I suppose, particularly if you can just try some samples. Nortriptyline is so cheap there is no need for free samples and is affordable even without insurance.

Hey, just thought I would follow up, just got back from my appt. Instead of tackling the depression right away, we upped the dose on Neurontin and Risperdal. The Neurontin I started recently and it seems to be helping the anxiety, which I believe was augmenting the depression. At the next appointment, if my mood isn't better, from the depression standpoint, she would like to try me on a low dose of Lithium because we're thinking more and more that I might be slightly Bipolar Depressive. Thanks again.
