friend has just overdosed Secotal, emergency!

Posted by mmcconathy on August 29, 2004, at 22:34:42

I dont know what the hell it is, but she's rushed to the hospital. I just heard from a phonecall, it was called Secotal or Seconal or something, i dont know but my friends are at the hostital. They thought she was drunk but then she collapsed and didnt wake up.

Maybe its ok, she well, sort of suicidal, she tried to over dose on Xanax, but nothing happned, so maybe nothing will happnen.

I think this was some kind of sleeping medication, because it made her drowsy.

It may just give her a hangover like the Xanax did, i dont know.

I'll keep you updated.

Matt

Seconal is a barbiturate, a SERIOUS sedative which most doctors won't prescribe. It contributed to the deaths of Marilyn Monroe and Jimi Hendrix. If your friend was trying to commit suicide, she was serious. It's nearly impossible to kill yourself with Xanax or any of the other benzodiazapines. But Seconal, especially when combined with alcohol or other CNS depressants can be quite deadly. I hope your friend is OK and if the Seconal was prescribed, she should avoid the bozo who prescribed it.

If she wasn't waking up, she was at least in a coma or had acidosis.

Alcohol can cause acidosis-- a.k.a alcohol poisioning- so it's important not to dismiss someone as a "drunk" when they pass out. Anyone passed out needs to go to the hospital A.S.A.P, seconal or not.

It stops respiration and can lead to death. Hopefully she received help fast enough so she'll wake up groggy. But if it's a month dose's worth of Seconal, and she was prescribed to take it each night for insomnia, that I believe may be enough to cause respiratory depression/coma or sudden death.

Maybe she's taking it for convulsions? Although other baributes are generally used for that, and only when benzos like Klonopin have failed.

Siezures are the only acceptable use for barbituates these days, and even that's after the patient's failed lots of alternatives.

Techincally, it's FDA-approved for insomnia, but that's an out-dated indication going back decades and faded out in the 70's.

Here's the story, She's alive, it wasnt enought i think, but they did treat her with something. Latest news i heard was they used something charchol, i may have misheard. I belive it was 5 capsules, but i'm getting the story screwed that it was 8, another was just 4. Some of my friends said they gave her coffee with this Dexedrine stuff, tried to make her wake up. Didnt work. I havent been calling because i dont want anyone to think i was envolved anyways.

It was her grandma's, oblviously she stole it, because ive never heard of Seconal, i dont know if she was dared to take 3-4 or it was just a plain suicide attempt.

Well i guess her next stop is the psychiatric hostiptal........
she wont be too happy. Her names Talisa by the way.

Ill keep you updated
