Lamictal and Neurotin

Posted by prodgirl on August 30, 2004, at 18:01:50

I will start adding Neurotin to my 400 mg of Lamictal tonight, which is the millionth drug I have taken to try to balance out and feel better...

Any one have anything to say about their experiences with the combo?

BPI, tendency toward depression...

Try it. I believe it helped with mood stabilization. It certainly helped with anxiety. It's easy to adjust the neurontin dosage if you need to. I varied at different times between 300 and 900 mg. I found it relatively clean as far as side effects (fatigue and weakness if dosage too high) and tapered off smoothly when I had to stop it due to a low WBC count.

If you don't like Neurontin, see what your pdoc says about Keppra. It feels a little like Neurontin to me - good at calming, taking the ege off emotions. Not too many side effects, but I had some serious brain fog, which I reduced by lowering the dose.

I felt that both Neurontin and Keppra were good options with Lamictal. I'm curious - are you getting adequate AD effect from Lamictal? At 250 mg, I still need augmentation. That seems to be the norm here. I didn't get additional benefit from going up to 300.

For the most part, the AD properties seem to be working okay. My sad moments are moments at that. Maybe 15min crying spells, not all day in bed for two weeks. It got much better with 400 mg.

Lamictil or neurontin in bpII/psychotic depression

I'm on week two of lamictal, which has been added to my Celexa 40 mgs to try and balance out my unhinged behavior from the latter. My dad and sister are BP1 and I have a schizo nana.

The pdoc said I will have to stay on the celexa to handle the anxiety end of things, but after two weeks, I'm finding the lamictal is having an anti-ruminating/social anxiety/paranoia effect. This is mostly why I take the Celexa.

I'm hoping to ween off the Celexa because I feel awfully flat no (worse sex drive than before), but I'm a bit nervous.

I also thought, seeing as I am likely BPII based on my success with Lamictal, that Neurontin might be a better choice given my tendency toward anxiety.

Has anyone had similar experinces

I am responding to my own message bc it disappeared into the Babble cyber-ether. Finding the social anxiety to be returning at 20 mgs Celexa and 100 mgs Lamictal. So far I love it, but I'm wondering if I should keep titrating up with the Lamictal.

Anyone?
