I'm starting MAOI ASAP, but am currently on Wellbutrin (300 mg XL for about 3 weeks), Dexedrine (10 mg) and Lamictal.
Anyone know whether these meds need weeks of washout before starting MAOI? First try will be Moclobemide (I know sketchy reputation of this drug but must try to minimize side effects).
Thx

I hope you are working with a doctor and not doing this on your own! Your doctor should know what the washout period is.
If you are starting with moclobemide, I don't think you really have to do a washout because it is reversible. But I am not sure. What has your doctor told you?

I went from Wellbutrin and Celexa to Nardil. I had to taper the Wellbutrin for a week or two (I was being cautious), and had to washout both for two weeks. During this washout period, I "practiced" the diet to make sure I could do it.
Take care,
gg

>Hi Marginal,
Are you taking Lamictal for Bipolar disorder? If so, then you will probably want to stay on it. The drugs you must avoid are the serotonin raisers such as the SSRI's, Effexor & Clomipramine. Since Wellbutrin & Dexedrine don't raise serotonin level, you should only need to wean off a couple of days before starting an MAOI. Personally, I don't think I would bother with Moclobemide as I haven't heard of it working for anybody.
Cheers,
Panda.
