Snapper - what do you take now? And (sorry for not doing my homework) do you see a T? My dx is very similar to yours.

I know this sounds like I'm on a crusade, but I was floored by the effect EMDR had on my anxiety and 24/7 panic attacks. I was NORMAL for 1 1/2 days. (I've just started it.)

I was seeing a T.and also had some EMDR 6 to 7 yrs ago but don't remember if it did me any good. it was back when i could semi-afford it and my overall life-stresses were continually stressful, running my own business, still drinking quite heavy, totally jscked up sleeping etc. right now because I am having ECT, i am very ltd. in the meds that I can take as not to interfere with the benefits of ect. I know that sounds crazy. Ambien every night....10 to 20mg.in divided doses and Gabitril...on the days i have ECT. It is a hard schedule to try and explain. No Gabatril the night before as it would mess up the seizure threshold...which is the whole purpose of the treatment to begin with.... I am in such a precarious situation.....constant anxiety/depression/constant depression about the continued intense anxiety..... it sucks......thank God for the Ambien. I wish I could sleep more like 14 to 16 hrs in every 24 hr period..instead of 5 to 6 of not so restful type sleep. I was taking Remeron and Klonopin at one point in last six months and it seemed to help a little more than the current protocol. but my memory is so bad that I am not sure if I was just thinking it was more effective or that I truly am more subjectively impaired. It is so hard to sort out. Part of me wants to throw in the towell and get back on Effexor, Klonopin, Ambien and maybe Remeron and just say fooey on the ECT in hopes of more complete remission.I wish I could make better decisions and did not have to reley on other peoples thoughts and opinions (DR. and familys') in respect to my mental health.I refuse to submit to hosptialization (again) and I know that I must continue to be my own advocate...least they lock me up and throw away the key (doughtful, but none the less a very scary thought)lol

Hi Snapper,

Have you tried Amitriptyline or Clomipramine?

Cheers,
Panda.

smapper, my heart goes out to you. I started gabitril just a few days before you did and for a little while thought it might work for me, i could sleep 4 1/2 hrs then later 1 or 2 hrs. then things became worse, i could only sleep 1 or 1 1/2 hrs up for 4 and maybe 1 more hr. my thoughts became somewhat parinoid and strangly instead of feeling tired and sleepy i was more energetic with a little hostility thrown in, this frighten me and i went back to zyprexa, after 2 days i'm nearly back to normal.
what i'm trying to say is talk to your dr about the gabitril, it may be causing problems for you too. don't stop suddenly as that can cause problems too. just ask about it, ok.
all my best.

Hey Panda, I don't think I have ever tried Amitriptyline.... I do think I probably tried Clomipramine roughly 10 yrs ago. Parnate pooped out on me and I think I tolerated Nardil for 3 to 4 weeks and thats all. OF course my symptomology was quite abit different back then compared to now and I am scared of trying the TCA's or MAOI's again for fear that I would'nt be able to tell potential dangerous side effects apart from my already extreme anxiety state symptoms. Does that make sense?

hi crazychick, thanks for the reply! I have been following your saga as well.... I am sorry you are having such a hard time of it as well.I already feel like my head is in one big hypertensive crisis from the time I drift off to sleep and starts again when I wake up to early in the morning. I am scared. There is no easy answer to this dilemma.

you might be right ,in that the Gabatril could be causing me more problems, but I just have such a hard time telling extreme anxiety apart from extreme paradoxical med. side effects. Does that sound crazy or what? I already DON'T take my Gabatril the night before and the morning of my ECT treatments.Because it would interfere with the overall therapuetic benefit and outcome of the ECT. But at the same time, how can I know if it is doing me any good on the days I do take it?
It is very frustrating! It makes me feel totally hopless in a lot of ways!

Hi snapper...if you read my post you'll see that I've suffered very badly with anxiety. My advice would be to keep reading the posts, you will realise that you're not alone. I know exactly how you feel, and I know that the anxiety seems endless and when you're in the middle of it all every day drags on forever. This is what you have to remember: It will pass, eventually it will. Hold on to that, it's very important. Whenever I feel like I can't go on, I always tell myself...Ok, it's horrible now, and it might be for some time, but it will pass eventually, and next time I feel this bad I know that it will go. Hope this thought helps...

I agree, it is frustrating. All we can do is keep trying to get to the place where we are comfortable. Because of the ect, you might not be able to tell, but do you feel any better late in the day that you skip your gabitril?
It's paradoxical that the meds we take have the capasity to create the same problem that they are meant to solve. It may be worth asking your doctor about anyway.
Anyway, my anxiety is much better now, not yet perfect, and I really hope that you too find peace.

Dear Snapper,
I just wanted to add my sincere heartfelt concern for you also. Anxiety is much, much,much,much,much...worse than physical pain.

I do not know your complete history...and I am sure you are doing everything you can.

Please hang in there..know that you WERE born for a purpose...your life has meaning and value
and that you are a living soul, clothed in flesh,
with divine purpose and a life mission.

Wish I could help take away some of your pain.

tearfully,...may God intervene...
Buckeye Fan

Thanks Everybody! Your continued support and concern is very much appreciated. I feel like my Family tries to understand and the dr. and the nurses do as well , but they just don't get it like you all do. That means so much to me. It just seems like I will never come out of this!I wish I could distract my self by watching mindless hours of TV, but that does'nt even work. There are too many violent things on TV that just make my anxiety worse.Again, thanks so much for everyones' support

Amitriptyline is the AD with the highest proven efficacy, if you have no problem subjecting yourself to ECT then why not try it?? Surely got to be better than quick fried brains. :)

Cheers,
Panda.
