Lamictal and Noise

Posted by zana on May 25, 2004, at 15:20:50

Has anybody else noticed that Lamictal makes some noises almost intolerable? The sound dishes make when I am unloading the dishwasher goes right through me. A small but really unpleasant problem. I am taking only 50mgs. Has anybody had this problem and had success reducing the dose?
Thanx

Yes, and I'm glad you mentioned it because I have a BIG problem with Lam and noise.
For me, the Lamictal is stimulating anyway but combine 150 mgs. with a 6 year old and a 3 year old and I'm finding myself constantly annoyed, frazzled, and agitated by the constant noise. I didn't use to be like this. It seems I have a hard time with this increased sensitivity on Lamictal. Are you titrating up? Perhaps, this will get better for you. In my own experience, I definately find this to be the case and I may even have to discontinue it due to the ongoing agitation I have.

ohmygod! i can't imagine dealing with a 3 and 6yo at all! much let alone with depression (if that's what you're dealing with) and med side effects.
i am not going up on lamic. i've been at 50 for a long time - 6 mos and it takes the darkest edge off my depression but the noise sensitivity is terrible, it ruins my sleep no matter when i take it, it kills my appetite (not entirely bad) and gives me diarrhea!
have you tried anything else? that must be so hard with kids. my heart goes out to you.

Yes, it's very hard alot of the time. I have bipolar II and am on the Lamictal for the mood stabilization (I also take Prozac) I may end up going back to Depakote because it was more calming for me. I am currently on 75 mgs. Lamictal and feel much less agitation than I did at 150. I may even be able to stay on it but at a low dose, as you are.
