Experiences with Parnate?

Posted by PhoenixGirl on May 21, 2004, at 22:44:13

Can some people here tell me about their experiences with Parnate? I'm about to switch to it after trying many, many other antidepressants for my severe, treatment-resistant depressant.
I've heard that Nardil tends to be more effective than Parnate, but I've chosen to try Parnate because it helps you stay awake, while Nardil tends to be sedating. I've had a problem with major sleepiness for years, and I don't need more of that. Plus, I've not had much libido or sexual function either, and Nardil is worse about causing sexual dysfunction.
Any thouhts on Parnate and MAOIs?

Hi,

Nardil & Parnate are the very best of AD's & Parnate is probably the first one to try primarily because it is one of the very rare AD's that are weight neutral. The tendency is for Nardil to be more sedating due to it's anxiolytic qualities but it can still cause insomnia. Nardil tends to lower blood pressure, but it can go either way on Parnate.

Cheers,
Panda.

I have found Parnate to cause insomnia in the beginning but as you stated that might be a good thing.
I've found no sexual side effects with Parnate.
I've also found it to be very effective, although like many meds, I've had to raise it every now and then to keep its effectiveness.

Hi guys. Social phobia is part of what I'll be using it for. I have depression, anxiety, social phobia, and some OCD.
I hope and pray I can make it through the wash-out period and have a good experience with Parnate!

I had a very good responce to Parnate.

It gave me high blood pressure which is why I had to discontinue, but it made me feel *normal* in a way that the SSRI's never could even dream.

Hi Linkadge. Thanks for the info. What other side effects did you have from Parnate?
