Other side effects of Effexor withdrawal?

Posted by Azarae on May 23, 2004, at 23:24:03

I'm on week number 2 of no effexor. I tapered off for a month ahead of time also.

Alot of the brain shivers, dizziness & nausea have stopped.

Now I'm freezing cold for about 20=30 minutes, then I'm sweating like I just ran a marathon the next...is this part of it? It goes on all day & all night.

Also, the last 4 days I have no fuse. I scream at my children for really stupid things & I have visions of either klling off them or me.

If I'm not like that, then I'm in a blah..who cares if I die today & who cares what happens to everyone else kind of mood.

I'm giving serious thought to finding a doctor who may give me something other than Effexor... or will this pass?

I consider myself a good parent, but my girls are scared to death to even breathe loudly in my presence or I will scream at them for making noise(this is NOT me).

Okay, thanks everyone
Karla B.

Some prozac is good for relieving the withdrawl symptoms.

Cheers,

Thanks much, but since I got laid off from my job of 10 years, I no longer have health insurance so getting ANY kind of drug is out of the question($$$ or lack of).

Also, I have yet to come across a doctor in this city who will give you any kind of anti-depressant unless you walk in the room telling him you're going crazy & convince them of it.

AND none of the Dr.'s I see believe there are ANY withdrawl symptoms from Effexor either...even when I was in E.R. with G.I. symptoms they wrote it off as psychosomatic.

I know its tough with no Insurance and NO "formal diagnosis".

May I suggest a little more time to allow the
"backlash" of the Effexor to wear off...and let your body return to a more normal state?

Others have posted that it takes weeks and sometimes MONTHS to feel more normal again after Effexor.

Dont be so hard on yourself...take your aggression out in the Gym or outdoors by walking or running...and let your body come back into
balance over time.
I know its easier said than done...but I am right there with you. I too have weened down to
37 mg a day...and feel better than I did at 150mg

Hope this helps

Believe me I know exactly what you are going through. In fact, I just got off the phone with my psychiatrist and he said that because I weaned myself I didn't do it right and the side effects are my fault. I told him about others experiencing the same thing and he said that is only 1% of all users, BS! I told him that I weaned down exactly the way that he increased my doseage and then he said "oh, okay, you are weaning correctly, but you are a small percentage of people who have any side effects". That is BS and he knows it. I have vertigo all day long, my ears are clogged, I can't walk a straight line, I'm nauseous, etc., but I will not go on another drug to help me get off this one. Well, I'm sorry if I'm making you feel worse, not my intention, I know that I will feel better soon, I won't let this destroy me, but I feel the same way around my two boys and my husband is getting the worst of it. Just be strong and we will get through this, we just have to keep our minds strong and help others out there who have no idea what they're getting themselves into. TAke care, and good luck.

Thanks everyone...I do have my good moments. I just have NO patience anymore & I really don't remember being quite that short-fused in my pre-effexor days.

The whole snapping on everyone thing is kind of scary...I find myself losing patience with my animals & I run a rescue(not a good thing)...

Is it just me or can the whole anti-depressant thing be a vicious circle? I don't want to ever go thru the withdrawl again...but I don't want to feel this way now so I want another "drug" to make it go away...yuck(okay, going to beat my head on the wall now).

Thanks again,

Karla B.
