I've been on Marplan for about three months, and after five years of trials, it has been the only drug to work for me. So I'm staying on it regardless. I've tried all the other MAOI's multiple times and none have been able to keep me stable. I'm a 200lb 23 year old male, if that helps. My current doc says the PDR high dose of Marplan is 60mg, however, he and I have never been ones to put much weight in the PDR. I've tried enormous doses of other meds without any severe side effects (no positive effects either), and I currently tolerate 60mg of Marplan in the morning very well (no real side effects). I've been on 120mg of Nardil (PDR says Nardil tops out at 90mg, I believe) more than once and it didn't work, but no harm done either. So how high have either you, or someone you have heard of taken the Marplan? 60mg definately doing something, but two months ago I was on just 20mg, and was much more active, sociable, relaxed, creative, and at peace. Since then, I've fallen a bit, but moving the dose to thirty and then forty both made a significant difference. I've been on six for five days, and still can't feel any difference. Going from thirty mg's to forty mg's and then forty to fiftymg both made a significant difference virtually overnight.

ps- do you think spreading the dose (30mg in the morning and 30mg at night would make a difference? (i feel the same all day and night right now...it's not like i have good mornings and poor afternoons, so I don't THINK this would make a difference, but you never know...matt

You might want to investigate the addition of desipramine. I was once brought into complete remission when I combined Parnate + desipramine.Good luck.

I was up to 50 mg. but had to bring it down to 40 because of hypotension and dizziness. I split the dose morning and evening. It didn't do too much for me until I augmented with Cytomel (T3). The most common augmentation drug is lithium, but I couldn't tolerate it. I also take Risperdal, Neurontin, and Klonopin.

I've read that you may get more efficient MAO inhibition by spreading the dose out somewhat. I take 6 x 15 mg/day Nardil and actually do take it six times a day, about overy two or three hours. This may seem strange, but my doctor and I are of pretty much the same mind about this, and I am perhaps a relatively enthusiastic MAOI patient.I certainly wouldn't expect the majority of people to be as gung-ho as I am, but I think there's no harm and certainly some potential benefit in at least splitting the dose in two, perhaps morning and afternoon (You could try it at night also--I just don't know what effect this might have on your sleep).

I take 20 mg. Marplan when I go to bed, along w/ Risperdal and Neurontin. I sleep pretty well, most of the time.

i take 100 milligrams of Parnate with no ill effects. It's not one of the medications you asked about but it is an MAOI

yeah, I've heard of nardil and parnate going over 100mgs, but I still don't know how safe it would be to take it that high with the Marplan, since although it is an MAOI, is it chemically and structurally different than Nardil and Parnate. But I'm scared shitless right now, because the Marplan worked so beautifully for three months, and now definately seems to be crapping out on me. Nardil once worked for me for about a month and then crapped out. I've tried all the other MAOI's many times before. Do you think it might be a plan to gradually increase the Marplan, and back down only if I feel adverse side effects? If you know of any resources online or elsewhere where I can do some high dose Marplan research (or Marplan augmentation/combination research) that would be most helpful.
