Transdermal selegiline and Compound Pharmacy!!

Posted by bipolarspectrum on May 20, 2004, at 2:54:53

Hi,
I'm wondering whether compound pharmacists can reformulate selegiline into a transdermal patch? And if so, would this be available in Canada?
Thanx for the read

I don't know about Canada, but I just played around with seleg. compounded into a cream form in the US. (Nothing to write home about for me)

I kind of remember a pharmacist saying to my doc that he could only do the cream, not the patch, but I could be wrong.

The pharmacy that my insurance co uses for compounds is called freedom drugs and they have a website.Freedomdrugs.com. They are in Massachusets. You might want to email them to find out, though I don't know how that would transfer over to Canada. Without insurance, the cream would have cost $110.00

Good luck,
Diane

Ever since Transdermal Selegiline has been mentioned on this group - I've been thinking of : crushing regular Selegiline tabs, mix them with DMSO (the most potent penetrator of the skin) and use it like that. How much would it differ from the new formula? Is it worth taking a shot?

I don't know what DMSO is, but I can tell you that in the compound I was given, the vhicle for transmission was hydrogenated vegetable oil. I won't know, I imagine, what the reason for the business not working was - or even if it was the drug itsself, but I can say that the cream has been a pain for me. But if you do the crushing and can be assured of the amount you are getting into the dmso, it might be worth a shot.

What is dmso anyway?

Good luck,

Diane

I would add that imo you should do the crushing one dose at a time because I really don't trust taht I was getting consistent dosaging, even with the measuring devices that were provided.

But I could be wrong.....
