Hi

What are you trying to treat with Insidon (Opipramol)?
Many doctors question its antidepressive effect. But its a effective non-benzo "tranquilizer". (its a tricyclic with no affinity to monamine transpoerters and a dopamine antagonist, like trimipramine).
Interesting to hear that someone uses this drug. May I ask where you live? Because its available in only a few coountries in the world.
About your question. Its hard, if not impossible, to predict when someone will notice anything on a drug. It should be between 1 day and 2 month...
Good luck with this drug, and I would really appreciate if you keep us updated, because you are the only person I know who is on Insidon.

Hi Roland

Thank you for the response.
Just to give you a little background...I live in Canada. My family doctor diagnosed me with depression. I was on Wellbutrin for almost two years but didn't help me whatsoever. The only noticeable effect was the weight loss.
My sister is a physician in Germany. After consulting with her, I stopped taking Wellbutrin. She strongly recommended Insidon (I guess it is a popular one in Germany).
I have been taking Insidon for two weeks now. I haven't notice anything but plenty of sleep. Unlike Wellbutrin, Insidon puts you in sleep like you won't believe!
I am not sure if I did a right thing by switching to Insidon...or maybe it is too soon to tell.

I would appreciate your comments especially on the side effects of Insidon.

If your sister recommended it to you, I think you schould ask her, what to expect from this drug. I think she will have her reasons to choose this drug.

I also think its too soon. I wouldnt make any decision regarding stopping this drug, without consulting your sister.

Hmm.. I am too lazy to make a complete translation of a drug monograph. In general, it has *very few* side effects. Its anticholinergic activity is weak. But, like all other tricyclics and other drugs, you can get almost anything from them.
But dont worry about this.
And if there are problems, just talk to your sister...

Hi

I live in germany and have been taking Insidon for severe depression for over two years now. It has worked well for me. It helped the acute anxiety, the panic attacks and the crying fits first. I first noticed its postive effect on depression about 5 weeks after I started, but had to increase the dose at about 6 weeks. Im also on 100mg a day which is quite a small dose but it works for me!
It has also help with my general anxiety as well and helps me fall asleep quickly but doesnt help to much at keeping my asleep!

Few side effects maybe:temperature intolerence, shaking and trembling, loss of libido, dizziness, and a tendency to feel drowsy sometimes in the mornings.
i must admit it has taken a long time to recover due to the severity of the depression but combined with therapy i think it has certainly helped me get better over time, at least giving me enough energy to work at getting better.

Hi JC

Thank you for all the good news. It was such a relief to hear your story. Since Wellbutrin never helped me, I sort of lost my trust to antidepressants...then my sister sent me one package of Insidon from Germany and insisted on taking it for a while.

Right now I am also taking one tablet (100 mg) every night, which is pretty low. Good news is the sleep issue is getting better especially if I take the medication earlier in the afternoon. Bad news is I still have the stupid long cry sessions!!!
My other concern is about gaining/losing weight. Did you ever notice any weight change? you also mentioned something about changing the dosage, How high did you go on dosage and for how long? Did you use other medications with Insidon?

Thank you for sharing this with us
