Xanax XR better than Xanax immidiate release?

Posted by zuzu80 on May 1, 2004, at 13:54:23

Hello,

I just started Xanax for social anxiety. I take 0.5mg x 3 times a day.

Whould taking, say, 2mg Xanax-XR (only morning) be better for long term use?!

Have any experience with the XR version?

Thanks a lot!

chemist here...no personal experience with XR BUT everything i have heard - doctors, clinical trials - and the short half-life of immediate release xanax (and thus more frequent dosing to prevent roller-coaster ups and downs) is clearly inferior to the XR version from a pharmacological standpoint. that said, be prepared to spend some $$$ (or pounds/euros/other?) for XR, as it is not available as a generic (if you have health insurance, fine).....i wish you the best, chemist

Here in this country (Norway) the price is exactly the same for both Immediate release and XR.

Some sort of regulation from the state health department.

ahh, the pros of not living in the u.s. i strongly suggest you try the XR - *everything* i have heard, studied, and been - well, how should i put this? - exposed to in proprietary trials all indicate that the XR is the way to go.....all the best, chemist
