PDoc - Recommend for Princeton,NJ/Phila PA area

Posted by sjb on April 22, 2004, at 9:56:46

Hi,

My therapist is not real impressed with the PDoc I've been seeing. He is very cavlier with the meds and often just gives me whatever is new when I'm not doing well. She seems to think, and I agree, that I need to see more of a "hot shot" who can look at my med history, what worked (and for how long) and what didn't and, perhaps, see a pattern in the type of meds or combo that might be most suitable for me. It would also be helpful if they had experience with Eating Disorders.

Thank You.

Jeffery T. Apter, MD is in Princeton. He stays current and conducts research.

Good luck.

Thank you. I'll give him a call. (I'm impressed that he only has a one liner in the white pages and is not listed under "Physicians".)

hi there, chemist here...i taught at princeton for 2.5 years (yes, really) and found that a combo of therapy from sandra brown with convo with shrink dr. ruth hamori was effective. both are in princeton proper, hamori on nassau and brown on battle rd. brown is msw and way experienced and does a back-and-forth with hamori for med checks. financially and emotionally excellent, in my opinion........all the best, chemist

this might be helpful: http://www.pennhealth.com/hup/psychiatry.html there are a lot of research programs and clinics, so do a thorough investigation.

I'd also highly recommend Jeffrey Apter, MD in Princeton, NJ.

I see him every 2 months or so (3 hr. drive roundtrip for me). He is always current (as posted previously, he does research studies), but won't prescribe something just 'cause it's brand-new. Also, he's an extremely decent person - has always treated me like a human being (unlike some "mental health professionals" I've seen).

Good luck.

Thank you so much. I will call and see if he's taking new patients.
