Remeron zombie! does sedation lessen?

Posted by TheOutsider on April 22, 2004, at 10:03:49

I started Remeron at 30mg on Tuesday for general anxiety and sleep.
Its worked well for those problems

Unfortunatly its also made me very sedated during the day, so I can barely function, Considering I have lots of essays to do thats not good!

Will the sedation lessen with time?
Will a lower or higher dose cause less sedation?

Any info and experiences much apreciated!

Higher doses are supposed to be more stimulating, but the stimulation it gives me is poor in that it makes me cranky & irratable. YMMW.

Cheers,

i was on remeron for about a year and i was tired the whole time. i kept falling asleep in class. it is better if you just take it at night, but i was still so tired the next day. i take ambien for sleep now-it doesn't last the whole next day.

Dear Outsider,
I have been on 15mg. of remeron for 2 yrs. & yes, for me the sedation went away.I take it 1 hr. before bedtime & it gives me a wonderful full nights sleep. If I wake up I can always go back to sleep. Hope this helps.

Think I will lower my dose to 7.5mg at night.
Went up to 60mg but did not experience any less sedation-more infact!
How long did it take for the daytime sedation to lessen Zena?

>Hi Outsider,
My Dr. told me with remeron higher mg. means less sedation. In other words 15mg. is the strongest. If you go to 7.5 you will sleep 24hrs. Ha! I don't remember how long it took for the sedation to subside. I would keep it around 30-45mg. I can't take 30mg. as it causes my ankles & feet to swelling. Dr. put me on lex & I was complaining to him about being so tired. He suggested going to 30 but I couldn't. The tiredness from lex finally subsided. I am on klonopin also-which makes you tired but your body does adjust. The sedation was much worse with lex than with remeron & klonopin. Let me know what you decide but give it some time.

Thanks Zena

I'm not sure about higher doses causing less sedation.
I took 60mg which should have been activating, but it just nocked me out!
I'l just try at 7.5mg

Hi, outsider, I'm new to remeron too and have been helped a lot by information on this board (thanks zena for your posts, hope you're doing well on the Lexapro!)

I started at 15mg and was knocked out for two to three days and then my energy improved.(I started on a weekend because I had been warned!)

It sounds, from your posts, that you are jumping around in your dosage without trying any one dosage for very long.

On another board I post on, people have indicated that you can feel very sedated for up to two weeks at whatever dose you start at.

In other words, you will usually have to make it through either several days or up to a few weeks of sedation wether you start at 15mg or 30mg or 45mg. But in the long run, people usually feel less sedated at the higher doses.

But everyone is so different. For instance, my energy is fine on 15mg, while other people have to go higher to get over the grogginess, but on another board I post on a woman could not even sleep on the remeron until she went up to 45mg.

I think 7.5mg is probably going to be very sedating for you. But like I said, we are all different!!

Just remember, if you take 45mg for one day and still have sedation (even though it is a higher dose) that doesn't mean that you would still be sedated a week or two from now. You have to give your brain time to adjust.

Good Luck! And keep in touch with how you are doing.

Hi Outsider,
I am just telling you what my Dr. told me. Ravenstorm said it the best. You have to stay on the same dosage for a period of time to know if it's working. Most AD's take at least 6 weeks to work. I am having wonderful results with my lex, remeron & klonopin. Good luck.
Zena
