i.am.having.a.full.blown.panick.attack.over.
my.health.this.time.its.my.heart,.it.keeps.fluttering.and.i.am.getting.the.odd.twinge.in.my.chest.too..its.all.anxiety.i.know.but.how.can.reasure.myself...i.,dont.have.no.benzo's.here.only.30.mg.remeron..

doc.just.says.for.me.to.calm.down.my.hrt.rate.is.now.140bpm.on.rest.i.am.freaking.and.cant.calm.down.plse.plse.someone.help.me

Close your eyes and listen to your breath going in and out of your body. Listen to how quick it is. Can you slow it down? Keep your mouth closed and breathe in and out through your nose. If you need to, plug your ears so you can concentrate on that breath.

Concentrate only on your breath - not your heartbeat.

The hell you are in is familiar territory to me. I've got the bills from several rounds of cardiac testing to prove it.

For most people, 140 beats per minute is not a dangerous pulse rate. It's about the target rate for a 40 year old during a 45 minute period of exercise.

Your sensation of the heartbeat and that "odd twinge" are amplified by tension in the muscles surrounding the heart.

Your doctor's advice to "calm down" is sound. However, calming down a nervous system as sensitized as yours is a bit of an art. Rainyday suggests a technique that should bring some relief. This is one of the fundamentals of "calming down," BREATHING EXERCISES -slowly taking deep breaths and counting them is another exceelent exercise.

Another essential is MUSCULAR RELAXATION: Begin by tensing all the muscles in your body at once, and gradually releasing the tension. Repeat until every muscle feels relaxed.

Finally, you'll need to fill your mind with a SIMPLE, PEACEFUL THOUGHT. Some people repeat a brief, comforting word or brief saying, such as a bit of scripture. Others prefer a visual image, such as a favorite scene from nature. Whatever, simplicity and repetition are essential.

Any of these techniques, practiced for a few minutes, should bring relief.


Better yet if you practice them all together for a few weeks, you likely will prevent many of your anxiety symptoms as well. Meditation classes or audiotapes/CDs can help tremendously. By daily following **Meditation for Absolutely Everyone** for 20 to 30 minutes, once or twice daily, I was able to quit my sedatives within a month.

Try breathing in and out of a small paper shopping bag a few times SLOWLY. The increased carbon dioxide will slow your breath rate down...

no.i.wasnt.i.was.terrifed.my.chest.hurt,been.like.it.since.lastnight.i.was.to.afraid.to.go.to.the.hospital.today.my.hrt.been.fluttering.and.i.been.feeling.tired.and.faint.i.been.scared.all.day

so.my.mum.took.me.to.doc.on.call.this.evening.not.so.busy.and.he.gave.me.some.valuim.5mg.taken.1.and.god.do.i.feel.so.much.better...i.might.go.to.my.docs.tommorrow.and.tell.my.doc.and.demand.some.tests.just.to.ease.my.mind.it.worked.for.my.headaches.now,its.my.chst.my.heart.

I am really sorry you are suffering so much with the panic attacks. It's a real horror experience. The other posts have some really good advice. Have you thought about hypnosis or using relaxation tapes to help aid you in finding some peace? Also, it would be very helpful for you to find out what is the source of the panic. In other words, what is it that is sending you into a state of panic? Making a plan may help you too. Make a list of things you can do for yourself when you feel panic. This may help you reduce the state of panic in the future.

You know - maybe this is what is called an OBJECTIVE RESPONSE. Perhaps your regular GP is not on the right track. Its not like the on call dr did not have access to your history - I bet they keep it on line. I know my GP did in Cheshire.
